The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos has a tough decision to make, but it seems clear that while Chock Chapple quickly became one of the most talked-about contestants on the series, he isn’t husband material. From the beginning of Joan’s journey on The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Chock’s charm and confident demeanor made him a standout among the other mature men vying for love. Chock has been able to say all the right things to Joan on The Golden Bachelorette, making himself seem like Joan’s perfect match, but as the season has progressed, many have gotten concerned about Chock’s intentions.
Throughout his journey on The Golden Bachelorette, Chock has tried to win Joan over, but while he’s been charming on group dates and seemed genuinely interested in Joan, cracks in his story started to appear. While Chock has been one way with Joan, his time with the rest of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 cast has shown a different side of his odd demeanor. On top of the switch-ups in his personality, Chock has made it seem like he’s not entirely ready to move on after the passing of his late fiance, meaning he may not be ready for Joan.
As details about Chock’s relationship with his late fiance emerged, many began to feel concerned that his time on the series was questionable. The way Chock worked to build his relationship with Joan was concerning for some, especially considering he was struggling to face the realities of what his life looked like without his late fiancé. As he’s meant to be moving forward with Joan, many don’t see Chock as the kind of person she can be with long-term, especially considering his behavior in the recent episodes. Though he’s a top contender, Bachelor Nation’s wondering if Chock’s charm is fake.
Chock Didn't Marry His Late Fiancé
Did He Have Commitment Issues?
There have been some shocking revelations on The Golden Bachelorette surrounding Chock, but one of the most surprising has been about his relationship with his late fiancé. Chock was engaged to his late fiancé for a short time before her death, but the pair had been together for about a decade beforehand. Chock’s lack of urgency to propose is a red flag, especially given how he’s described the relationship. Sharing that his time with his ex was deeply meaningful to him, Chock’s unwillingness to move forward left Bachelor Nation concerned for Joan, as his reluctance came off a bit strange.

Chock may not be as committed to the idea of a lifelong partnership, or marriage at all. While he’s been clear with Joan that he envisions a life with her, Chock’s commitment-phobe tendencies have been coming out of the woodwork with reports of his inability to commit. Chock’s exes have been open about his pattern of avoiding long-term commitment and staying in relationships without the promise of a future or longevity. Though he’s been open with Joan about his late fiancé and the struggles their relationship brought, Chock may not actually want to settle down with anyone in his life.
Chock Being All In With Joan Seems A Little Fast Even For The Bachelor
He’s Too Invested
While Chock has been described as a commitment-phobe in the past, his quick attachment to Joan and their relationship has been alarming to some Bachelor Nation viewers. Chock found himself interested in Joan quickly, and within just a few short episodes, he was professing deep feelings for her. Chock even shared that he could be ready to propose long before the finale of The Golden Bachelorette, which some viewers found strange. While he’s been showing genuine affection, Chock’s been intense with his feelings for Joan, which some are seeing as a red flag, and others are categorizing as love bombing.
Chock’s blatant attitude of being all in on Joan has been normalized in The Bachelor franchise, but the pace with which he developed feelings is a lot faster than many typically move. With someone who has allegedly been hesitant in past relationships, his sudden onslaught of feelings for Joan has been difficult for Bachelor Nation to digest. While it’s possible Chock has simply found his match with Joan, it feels like he may be moving too fast and trying to force something that isn’t working in his head in order to win her affection and gain attention on reality TV.
Chock Doesn't Seem Friendly With The Other Male Contestants
He Doesn’t Seem Personable
Chock’s interactions with Joan couldn’t be any more different than his experiences with the other cast members on The Golden Bachelorette. Though the guys on The Golden Bachelorette don’t necessarily need to get along, they typically form bonds with one another and find lasting friendships. For example, Mark Anderson was quick to form bonds with the rest of the guys, to the point that when he shared he’d be leaving, there were men who were moved to tears. Chock, on the other hand, hasn’t been able to build many connections with the rest of the cast, focusing his efforts elsewhere.
While Chock could be building relationships that will stick with him after The Golden Bachelorette comes to an end, he’s been stand-offish and insular, isolating himself unnecessarily and making the other guys wary of him. Though it’s possible Chock’s social skills aren’t up to par with the rest of the cast, the difference between his relationship with Joan and the potential friendships he could make with the other guys is staggering. Seeing him operate in two different elements is odd for Bachelor Nation, giving viewers pause. Chock could be seeing The Golden Bachelorette as a competition, but at what cost?
Will Chock & Joan Get Engaged During The Finale?
Bachelor Nation Viewers Fear For Their Longevity
As the finale of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 approaches, many have been speculating about what will happen between Joan, Chock, and her other finalist Guy Gansert. Though Joan and Chock’s relationship has been fast-paced, it seems likely that he will be the final choice for The Golden Bachelorette lead. Despite knowing that Chock has had some red flags following him, Joan seems to be trusting her instincts about him. Still, it’s possible that rather than getting engaged at the end of the season, Joan and Chock will commit to each other and see where things go without a ring.
Many are worried that if Joan and Chock choose to get engaged, their relationship will blow up in their faces as they move forward, much like The Golden Bachelor’s Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist. Bachelor Nation seems hopeful that Joan winds up happy, and for that to happen, it seems imperative she and Chock don’t end the season with a proposal. The Golden Bachelorette finale should end with Joan and her final choice deciding to get to know each other in their new relationship, with marriage in the very distant future.
The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT.
