The Gilded Age season four premiere gets surprise cameos from Matt Damon and David Letterman

Matt Damon and David Letterman made a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance in the season four premiere of Gilded Age on Sunday.

The actor, 56, and the television host, 79, made a six-second cameo in the newest episode of the hit HBO series around the 8:33 mark.

Damon and Letterman suddenly appeared in the show as a stylish pair, dressed in dapper attire with tall hats to match, as they strolled across the street in a brief scene.

The pair were nearly unrecognizable with the addition of intricately designed facial hair and a vintage wardrobe for their short, no-dialogue parts in the episode.

Damon was spotted with dark gray sideburns and a bushy mustache — a different look than his usual salt-and-peppered stubble and well-styled coif.

The Odyssey star recently made a red-carpet appearance, showing off a rare clean-shaven look while supporting his longtime pal and business partner, Ben Affleck, in the latter's new crime thriller Animals.

As for Letterman, he was sporting what appears to be his own mustache and full beard, lush with a fresh trim.

The longtime late-night television host, who has shown off his varied collection of specs over the years, was also wearing a pair of inconspicuous, circular glasses with a slim, silver frame.

Damon could be seen in a white shirt with an ascot, peeking out from behind a long coat paired with slacks.

He wore a top hat while Letterman had on a bowler hat to complete his all-black ensemble.

The two were debonair after transforming their looks and stepping into the historical drama set in New York City back in the 1880s during the American Gilded Age.

Upcoming season four episodes of The Gilded Age will premiere on Sunday and be available to stream on HBO.

The television will soon be releasing season seven of his Netflix talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, and Damon will also be making an appearance.

The interview series' showrunner, Isabel Richardson, recently revealed how Letterman and Damon's cameo in The Gilded Age came to fruition.

The cameo idea came to be while preparing for Damon's forthcoming appearance on Letterman's Netflix talk show; pictured in September 2022

In an interview with Vulture, she said they came up with the idea while doing research for Damon's forthcoming appearance on the talk show.

She explained that they learned he got his start in the industry as a background actor, so they pitched the idea to Letterman and Damon to do background acting together.

'It'd be really fun for Dave to do this with Academy Award winner Matt Damon, and it tied into his origin story really well,' she told the outlet.

She said that they presented a list of possible field segment options to Damon, and the actor 'unequivocally chose this idea as his favorite. And this was, by far, the silliest, most ridiculous idea.'
