The First Footage of Marvel’s ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ Is Stunning

You’ve read about it, you’ve heard about it, and now you can see it for yourself. Marvel just released the first footage from its upcoming animated series, Eyes of Wakanda, and it looks like a show befitting such a storied Marvel country.

Set to premiere on Disney+ August 27, Eyes of Wakanda will tell stories from across the rich history of the fictional African nation, best known from the Black Panther movies. Stories involving vibranium, the Black Panther, the Dora Milaje, and much, much more. Here’s your first taste.

Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is an executive producer on the show, but he left the day-to-day duties to showrunner Todd Brown. Recently, Brown spoke about the show and made it clear that while most Marvel fans think of Wakanda and Black Panther as one and the same, the show is not only about the Black Panther.

“We have characters that are very important in the show, but it also examines what kind of person Wakanda makes,” Harris said earlier this summer. “A 10,000-year-old society. What kind of fortitude, what kind of lack of temptation to over-expand? All these different things to keep things from imploding, all these different things that have been the detriment to a lot of history… how did they avoid that and what kind of person does that make? What kind of rock-solid principles keep them on the straight and narrow that balance that’s so hard for everyone alive?”

You get a sense of that here with all the different types of characters, eras, and more. We wish there was more to see since, at 30 seconds, this is a pretty short tease. But surely we’ll get more in the coming weeks. Maybe even at San Diego Comic-Con?

Eyes of Wakanda debuts on Disney+ August 27. Are you excited to learn more about the MCU’s most advanced nation?
