Marvel Rivals’ character roster is a love letter to Marvel nerds like me, but I couldn’t help but notice one of my favorite hero teams was suspiciously absent at launch. But that’s about to change. Is it clobberin’ time? I think it’s clobberin’ time.
It’s happening, true believers: the Fantastic Four are coming to Marvel Rivals right on the eve of the game’s first official season’s launch. In a post on the official Marvel Rivals X (formally known as Twitter) page, NetEase Games confirmed that all four founding members of Marvel’s First Family will enter the cosmic fray soon. That’s right; Mr. Incredible, Invisible Woman, The Thing, and the Human Torch are all coming to Marvel Rivals simultaneously or back-to-back. Someone pinch me.
In the post, NetEase promised that a new trailer would go live at 8:00 AM PST/16:00 UTC on January 6, 2025. This trailer will presumably tell us a bit more about how each member of the Fantastic Four plays and in what order they’ll come stretching, sneaking, smashing, and blazing into Marvel Rivals.
The announcement features some snazzy official art of the Fanatic Four (and their android helper H.E.R.B.I.E) sailing the skies of New York City in their iconic flying Fantasticar, with their headquarters, the Baxter Building, looming triumphantly behind them. Marvel Rivals fans have been hoping for a New York-themed map since pre-launch, so this choice of background may hint that Season 1 will feature a new map or two.
This announcement is insanely exciting, but it isn’t exactly surprising. Marvel Rivals leakers have been grinding out lists of incoming characters, and the Fantastic Four have been sitting pretty at the top of almost all of them. Marvel Rivals’ leaker community is remarkably prophetic, and we even got a credible-looking complete list of Mr. Incredible’s moves a few days ago that sets him firmly as a duelist with a cool damage absorption-and-reflection mechanic.
Surprising or not, this is a fantastic reveal. Doctor Doom has been looming large throughout Marvel Rivals Season 0 as the Big Bad behind the multiverse’s fracturing, so it was only a matter of time until the team that’s opposed him the most in comics showed up. With new heroes will probably come new challenges, outfits, and changes to the meta, so the Fantastic Four is bound to do what they’ve always done: change things for the better.
