Lee D’Amato is a writer born, raised, and based in Queens, New York. With collective thousands of hours in games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Elden Ring, and The Legend of Zelda, he's now writes game features, guides, and reviews for Screen Rant, but has covered a wide range of topics, including ancient history, affordable travel, and overall health.

You'll soon be able to play co-op in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, thanks to the efforts of an ambitious modding team. The remaster of Bethesda's classic open-world RPG was shadowdropped last year to rave reviews, with many fans praising its faithfulness as they dove back into exploring Cyrodiil once more.

Time to revisit the classics

This announcement comes at a somehow-still-turbulent time for the Elder Scrolls fandom, which is patiently awaiting a drop of information on the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. To date, the image above, part of a short announcement/teaser trailer released in 2018, is still the only major update we've gotten on The Elder Scrolls 6.

Last month, Bethesda director Todd Howard admitted that it could be "a while yet" before TES6's release, which, I'll note, is similar to what ZeniMax Online Studios founder Matt Firor said of the sequel in 2019 (via GameSpot). These statements aren't exactly inspiring, but they're also incredibly vague; it's hard to know whether we should expect to wait another year or another decade for The Elder Scrolls 6.

But in a way, that's okay: all this waiting gives us plenty of time to revisit the classics, and what better way to do so than with friends? Or, frankly, a group of like-minded strangers? Oblivion Remastered in multiplayer sounds like an absolute delight, and the way it's being incorporated into the existing game makes it sound all the more enticing.

Oblivion With Friends Sounds Like A Blast

Better with ReadyM

Really, just about any form of multiplayer Oblivion would be fun: playing through the campaign with friends would make for a chaotic romp through Cyrodiil. Showing off unique, overpowered builds in PvP arena matches would be novel and competitive.

But the brilliance of ReadyCode's Oblivion mod is that you can do all that and even more. Using their ReadyM multiplayer framework, you'll be able to create and join custom servers, playing through the campaign together, engaging in massive PvP battles, or even joining custom roleplaying servers with unique rules and custom quests.

Of course, all that is dependent on the community's ability to come together and build it; ReadyCode provides the tools you need, but there's some assembly required. Still, I wouldn't put it past Elder Scrolls fans, of all gaming communities, to put together a robust and diverse multiplayer ecosystem in a game that was never designed for it.

So, if you're sick of waiting for TES6 news, or just want to revisit an old favorite in a new way, keep an eye out for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered's multiplayer mod.
