Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.

Next week will mark one year since the premiere of the cozy crime comedy drama Good Cop/Bad Cop on The CW, yet, until now, it's been mostly crickets on the status of Season 2. Pairing Gossip Girl favorite Leighton Meester with Luke Cook of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fame, the series quickly became a surprising and charming hit for the network on a lower budget, premiering to strong 91% and 92% scores from critics and audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. As talks of a potential sophomore outing for the procedural heated up, Prime Video also picked up all eight episodes to expose more viewers to the brother-sister duo of Detectives Lou and Henry Hickman.

Created by Will & Grace writer John Quaintance, Good Cop/Bad Cop enlisted its stars in a small Pacific Northwest police force, tackling the challenges that come with handling small-town crime, like a lack of resources and a cavalcade of colorful locals. All the while, they wrestle with their own odd couple dynamic, with Meester's Lou being a longtime fixture of the community under her sheriff father, while Cook's Henry is just returning from a seven-year stint with the Seattle P.D. With so much room to continue exploring their detective efforts, Quaintance and executive producer Jeff Wachtel were both actively pushing to keep the Brooklyn Nine-Nine-like show around, with the latter hopeful that Prime Video's involvement, along with Roku, would be the boost needed. "Our hope is that somewhere in the mix of people who have already been financing the show, Roku etc., or even a new person who comes in, [we will get to] critical mass," he said at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival last year. However, that apparently hasn't happened.

Cook took to TikTok on Thursday to confirm that there will not be a second season of the series, thanking the viewers who did tune in for supporting the program while it was around. While he didn't give an exact reason, he characterized it more as a harsh reality of working in Hollywood, which "has the ability to make your dreams come true and also break your heart." Regardless of how it ended, he spoke to how much love there was for the cozy series and the friendships that were formed in the short time he worked for the Eden Vale P.D.

Who Else Was Involved in 'Good Cop/Bad Cop'?

Good Cop/Bad Cop was released both through The CW in the United States and Stan in Australia, with Wachtel's Future Shack Entertainment producing alongside Jungle Entertainment and ITV Studios. According to Quaintance at Monte-Carlo, the show had been over a decade in the making before it was finally fully realized as he envisioned, making it all the more personal a project. In addition to the duo of Meester and Cook, it also boasted the talents of beloved actor Clancy Brown as their on-screen dad, Big Hank Hickman, alongside Devon Terrell. It even features a "quirky" appearance by Meester's real-life husband, Adam Brody, who enters the picture as a doctor-turned-vet who unexpectedly becomes a crucial factor in solving one of the siblings' cases.

All episodes of Good Cop/Bad Cop are currently available to watch through Roku, The CW, Prime Video, and also Netflix.
