The Canon R5 II Is Backordered Amid High Demand and Low Parts Supply

The Canon EOS R5 II has begun arriving to initial customers across numerous global markets, including in the United States. Demand has been high enough in Japan that shipments may be delayed by more than six months, but the situation is not necessarily so dire elsewhere.

As Canon Rumors reported last week, Canon Inc. in Japan issued a statement on August 29th concerning the availability of upcoming Canon products in Canon’s domestic market. While the EOS R1, which hasn’t even launched yet, and an array of new accessories “may take longer than usual” to deliver, the Canon EOS R5 Mark II could take “more than six months” to fulfill new orders.

Canon cites receiving “more orders than expected” and a “global parts” shortage as the reasons behind the delays in Japan.

“We apologize to our customers and business partners for the inconvenience. Products are scheduled to be shipped one after another, but it is expected that the new camera body EOS R5 Mark II will take a long time to ship,” Canon Inc. says in a statement machine-translated from its original Japanese. “We apologize again for keeping our eager customers waiting for such a long time. We will continue to take measures to ensure a stable product supply so that we can deliver the products as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding.”

Naturally, Canon photographers elsewhere have heard the news from Japan and grown concerned about their ability to purchase a Canon EOS R5 Mark II.

As of now, the R5 II is available to order from B&H, although B&H notes that the camera is “released in limited quantity.” The R5 II kit with the RF 24-105mm f/4 lens is currently in stock, however. At Adorama, the camera body is on backorder with expected availability on September 18th. Like at B&H, Adorama also has the R5 II kit in stock. The R5 II is also backordered on Canon USA’s official store.

“Response to the initial release of the EOS R5 Mark II camera has been extremely positive,” Canon U.S.A. Inc., tells PetaPixel.

“Global supplies vary by sales company. In the USA we are currently experiencing back-orders of this product but anticipate the future supply will improve,” Canon U.S.A. continues.
