There's good news and bad news for the domestic theatrical market this weekend. While Pixar is looking at its biggest haul for an original title in nearly a decade, Warner Bros. is bracing itself for its first major underperformer in a year. Pixar's Hoppers is projected to gross approximately $40 million this weekend, which represents the biggest debut for an original film from the animation studio since Coco, which was released in 2017. Hoppers, which has received near-unanimous critical praise, is poised to outperform recent Pixar originals such as Elio, Elemental, and Onward. The studio has suffered in the last five years, with numerous projects delivering subpar box office performances, leading to layoffs. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has been on a nine-film hot streak over the last year, which is poised to end this weekend with the release of The Bride!

Warner Bros. earned the industry's praise for backing original films such as Ryan Coogler's Sinners, Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, and Zach Cregger's Weapons — all three movies are major Oscar contenders, with Sinners breaking the record for the most Oscar nods in history. Last year, Warner Bros. also released blockbusters such as A Minecraft Movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Superman. The studio's streak continued in 2026, with Emerald Fennell's controversial Wuthering Heights, which has grossed more than $200 million worldwide so far against a reported budget of $80 million.

Here's How Much 'The Bride!' Is Expected to Gross in Its Opening Weekend at the Box Office

The Bride! cost a reported $90 million. Inspired by the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, the movie was directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and headlined by Oscar favorite Jessie Buckley. The film's stacked supporting cast includes Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Annette Bening. Like Wuthering Heights, The Bride! opened to divisive reviews, with some praising Gyllenhaal's bold vision and others criticizing its muddled tone and over-the-top performances. The Bride! is now sitting at a 60% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "Concocted with all the restraint of a mad scientist's experiment, THE BRIDE! lurches in so many different creative directions that the overall effect is both sloppy and inspired." The movie is projected to gross less than $10 million in its domestic opening weekend after grossing $3 million on opening day from more than 3,000 domestic theaters. The Bride! is currently looking at around $20 million or less worldwide by Sunday. This would be a disappointing result for the star-studded period crime saga, which will need to generate around $200 million worldwide to break even to break even, given typical revenue splits between studios and theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
