TriStar Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for The Breadwinner, their family comedy marking the first leading film role of comedian Nate Bargatze.
In the film directed by Weird: The Al Yankovic Story‘s Eric Appel, Mandy Moore co-stars as Nate’s supermom wife, Katie (Moore), who lands a deal on Shark Tank, leading the lifelong breadwinner of the family to become a stay-at-home dad who quickly gets in way over his head.
The couple’s kids, played by Stella Grace Fitzgerald, Birdie Borria and Charlotte Ann Tucker, express little confidence in their dad from the jump, with one exclaiming, “We’re all going to die.”
“Dad, are you mom now?” asks the daughter played by Tucker, to which Nate replies in the affirmative.
Elsewhere in the trailer, chaos ensues, as Nate gets into a car accident, leading to the explosion of his daughter’s model volcano. He also gets nose hair ripped out by his daughters while contending with night chores and clogged toilets.
“I don’t know Katie does it. My feet hurt, my back hurts. She makes it look so easy,” Nate says. “This has been the hardest I’ve ever worked in my life.”
The Breadwinner opens May 29 opposite A24’s horror film Backrooms, Focus Features/StudioCanal’s D-Day thriller Pressure, Black Bear’s crime pic Tuner, and Lionsgate action thriller The Furious.
Bargatze and Dan Lagana penned the script and produced the film, along with Jeremy Latcham through Wonder Project. Check out the trailer by clicking above.
