Homelander and Soldier Boy have a brief but hilarious conversation in The Boys season 5's trailer, which comes off as the perfect nod to a sequence from the original comics.

Even The Boys season 5's trailer ensures that Soldier Boy gets all the attention by featuring a sequence in which he asks Homelander a hilarious question. Interestingly, though, this funny banter between the two overpowered supes seems to be a reference to a scene from the original The Boys comics.

The Boys Season 5’s Trailer Has The Perfect Reference To A Homelander & Soldier Boy Comic Book Scene

The Boys season 4's closing chapter featured a sequence in which Homelander considered awakening Soldier Boy. Season 5's trailer confirms Homelander will awaken Soldier Boy in the final chapter, hoping that he will agree to join forces with him. In the trailer, as soon as Soldier Boy wakes up from his slumber, he asks Homelander if he "f**ked" him.

Homelander responds with an awkward "no," which turns the whole sequence into a hilarious renuion between the two powerful supes. Since Soldier Boy is known for saying some of the weirdest things in the most random moments, he is certainly not out of character in the trailer sequence.

Interestingly, the scene comes as a direct reference to an arc from The Boys' comics in which Soldier Boy actually sleeps with Homelander. He does this because he believes it will help him land a spot in The Seven. It must be noted, though, that Homelander and Solider Boy are not related by blood in the original comic books.

By previously establishing Soldier Boy as Homelander's father, The Boys gives Soldier Boy's first season 5 line an even more awkwardly funny spin. It also shows how, despite significantly drifting away from the original comic books, the show is not shying away from dropping subtle references to some of its most bizarre plot points.

Interestingly, it seems likely that The Boys season 5 and the original comics will have several other parallels. If Homelander's arc in the show's final installment unfolds as most viewers expect it to, it could be a reimagining of the comic books' ending arc in more ways than one.

Homelander Might Meet The Same Fate As His Comic Book Counterpart In The Boys Season 5

Homelander with red eyes in The Boys

In the original The Boys' comics, Black Noir is revealed to be a clone of Homelander created by Vought as a fail-safe. His purpose is to kill Homelander if the overpowered supe goes rogue. Homelander loses his mind towards the end of the comics and sets out to stage a coup at the White House. This is when Noir reveals who he is and brutally kills Homelander before he can reign supreme.

Given how the show has treated Black Noir so far, it seems unlikely it will feature the same "Homelander clone" twist as the comics.

However, just like his comic book counterpart, Homelander will likely end up dead before The Boys season 5's final credits start rolling. He might die at the hands of Billy Butcher, who could end up injecting him with the supe-killing virus. Or, Starlight or Gen V's Marie might end up unlocking their true abilities before gaining the ability to overpower him for good.

A fate even worse than death for Homelander would be living the rest of his life as a normal human with no supe abilities. However, considering the direction in which The Boys is heading in, it seems likely that Homelander will reach the peak of his reign in season 5 before falling from grace.
