The Boys has already teased who Homelander's successor will be after season 5 — a familiar face with plenty of history tied to Vought. The Boys season 5 saw the titular group of underdog heroes take on Homelander for the last time. Despite the antagonist becoming invincible and immortal thanks to V-One, Kimiko was able to take away his powers using a radioactive blast similar to Soldier Boy's.

With Homelander dead, Vought ends up back in the hands of Stan Edgar, who promises another dangerous Supe like Homelander will never be given a chance to rise again. However, with the number of Supes operating across the United States, there's no guarantee this will be the case. Especially because there's one Supe being set up as his perfect successor.

That Supe is, surprisingly, Stormfront. Introduced to The Boys in season 2, she became Homelander's love interest before she was later killed by Ryan. Season 5 revealed she also had a relationship with Soldier Boy, and was a recipient of the same V-One that kept him alive. But season 5 also hinted at how she could succeed Homelander, despite dying in season 2.

Stormfront Could Be Homelander's Successor After The Boys

Surprisingly, season 5 hinted that Stormfront may have actually survived her supposed death during season 2. On their way to Fort Harmony, Homelander tells Soldier Boy about her death. However, he refuses to believe him, not only because of how resilient he says she was, but also because of the V-One in her system supposedly preventing her from ever dying.

While the upcoming Vought Rising will focus on her villainous tendencies, alongside her role as a love interest for Soldier Boy, this hint about her survival seems crucial to the overarching story of the franchise. Although season 5 never outright confirmed she's alive, her major role in the prequel show could add even more context to Soldier Boy's disbelief that she was dead.

The Boys: 30 Major Differences Between The Comics & The Show

Prime Video's The Boys is based on a comic book series of the same name, and some big changes were made to the latter in the adaptation.

But series creator Eric Kripke offered an even stronger hint not long after The Boys season 5 wrapped up. Kripke has been non-specific about whether Vought Rising will have a present-day storyline, despite the show being advertised as taking place in the past. As far as the audience knows, Soldier Boy's story ends after Homelander puts him back in cryosleep.

However, Kripke's indirect hints about the present day timeline continuing in Vought Rising means it's possible Soldier Boy will have a story that takes place after the ending of The Boys. Given how strongly his relationship with Stormfront will play into the prequel, his disbelief in her death could be the perfect way to bring her back in modern times.

Stormfront Is The Only Villain Who Comes Close To Homelander

Alongside possibly surviving her supposed death, Stormfront is also the only villain in The Boys who comes remotely close to Homelander in terms of sheer power. With super strength and speedy flight, she manages to match him almost at the same level. Her most notable difference is the ability to produce purple lightning, a dangerous contrast to Homelander's laser vision.

There also don't appear to be any Supes around that would be able to defeat her if she really were still alive. Ryan almost killed her at the end of The Boys season 2, but he no longer has any powers. This would make her even more formidable than Homelander, considering there's now nobody around who could stop her from rising to power in the present day.

That is, nobody but Soldier Boy. If The Boys' story continues in Vought Rising, he might be forced to grapple with putting a stop to Stormfront despite his past connection to her. This would resonate in a complicated, emotional way that could make her return all the more satisfying, justification for why she should be brought back in the modern timeline.
