Beach parties! Gamer caves! Floating paradise islands!
Image: Koei Tecmo, Game Freak/Nintendo, The Pokémon CompanyPokémon Pokopia has only been in the wild for a week, but dedicated builders are already seeing what they can pull off with a handful of blocks and some nice furniture. And sometimes way more more than just a handful of blocks. There are a lot of top-notch builds out there — from impressive architecture to structures inspired by video games. Here are 11 of the best we've seen so far.
1 Cliff House
Pokopia teaches you early that a house is a specific set of things — leaves and brick, or mortar, stone, and wood. It's something you build and place in the environment. This one does things a bit differently. It's something built into the environment. DirgeofElliot carved out some tiered rooms in a cliff wall, then plunked down some brick flooring and made it pretty dang cozy for a cave home. It's a clever way to think differently about how you use space and how you can make anything homely and nice with the right approach.
2 Beach Party
Bleak Beach isn't so bleak with this build. It turns the barren shoreline into a proper party scene with walkways, palm trees, and designated seating areas on one side and a sound stage on the other, complete with fancy lights and room for an impromptu dance floor. And since being covered in sand is no fun (sorry, Sandygast), there's a nice little tiled shower area for everyone to rinse off in and some pools to keep the grass- and water-type Pokemon happy.
3 Greenhouse Cafe
YouTuber ZoiBean, also a prolific Animal Crossing: New Horizons builder and designer, made a multi-functional space with this cafe. It's part coffee shop, but also part storage center — just with all the storage neatly disguised as general shop furnishings instead of the more common "bins with item labels" you see in other builds. And it's partly a greenhouse, with a big emphasis on nature, which makes it also a bunch of Pokémon habitats without looking like it's trying to be a bunch of Pokémon habitats. ZoiBean includes the blueprint in the video, so you can make it yourself if you're keen.
4 A Nice House
A well-made house is just as impressive as some of the swankier builds, and this one has a few additional features that make it stand out even further. Like the trellis blocks out front. "Where do you get those?" you might ask, and the answer is you don't. Reddit user Catsareme flipped some fencing around and stacked it together to make them.
5 Gamer Cave
Taking three hours to grind for this build, as Own-Quail8489 says they did, seems a bit confusing initially. But the little starry-sky room is just the tip. (Props for adding a first-aid station, too. Safety first.) Down the hatch is a much larger room with music switches, a stage, toys and plushies, and multiple game setups — and a lot of starry sky bricks. Those aren't the easiest to find, and even scrounging every one of them from the museum ruins probably wouldn't be enough to make this space. No wonder it took so long.
6 Mosslax Grotto
Water is tricky to work with in Pokopia, which makes this almost altar-like grotto with Mosslax at the center even more impressive. The Mysterious Statue items and Poke Ball riff on Ionic columns are nice little touches, as is the food offering in the front. But just as lovely is the sunken garden all around, the multicolored grasses and the flowering hedges.
Honorary mention goes to this more practical water setup that turns the Withered Wastes into something like an alpine fairy tale village.
7 Sky Island
Streamer ZackingBall spent more than five hours building an island in the skies above the Withering Wasteland, though "island" undersells it. It's more like a floating planned community, with tightly packed, but well-spaced habitats; little-but-not-too-small plots for every Pokémon to have a home; a little forest grove, flower beds, a tiny park; and even room for a few water features and campfires. Most of it uses recipes you can acquire early in the game as well, so if you don't mind building a ladder into the sky and trekking back and forth with building materials, you can make one yourself as well. The full thing on Twitch is a long video, but the 3 hour 17 minute mark and 5 hour 2 minute mark give you a nice overview of how the island looks.
8 Flower Shop
This adorable little boutique is an exercise in just how much you can achieve using small spaces. Every square is decorated to perfection — the little bookshelves and reading nook, the subtle lighting, the well-designed floral arrangements and woodsy aesthetic. All very on-trend in that "natural boho" way. And, judging from the video at least, it ended up turning into a little hangout spot where Pokémon flock to enjoy having the outdoors indoors and chill out together. Trendy and functional — doesn't get much better than that.
9 Palette Town
There've been a few efforts at recreating Professor Oak's lab and getting that Pallet Town look just right. But this build from Xenamii comes the closest to nailing it that we've seen. The houses have that Gen 3 chic from FireRed and LeafGreen. Oak's lab is cozy, but professional. The spacing is perfect, and there's even a little path leading to the grassy area just outside of town where you can find Tangela. All that's missing is a Pokémon to say things about how amazing technology is.
10 Cathedral
You might wonder what to do with all that stained glass lying around. Square_Intern_3380 did too, and then decided a Pokémon church was the right answer. The glass and its kaleidoscope of colors are the standouts, of course, but I particularly appreciate the attention to detail with the small things, like the cute clock on the wall and the books and microphone at the pulpit. Maybe Pinsir and Heracross can finally get married. And if Game Freak ever adds Arceus to Pokopia, at least they'll have somewhere nice to go.
