The best deals you can get ahead of Amazon’s October Prime Day sale

3 weeks ago 13

In case you missed the news, Amazon’s fall Prime Day event — once again dubbed Prime Big Deal Days — begins tomorrow, October 8th, and runs through October 9th, offering Prime subscribers a chance to save on all sorts of tech ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The two-day deal blitz is still hours away, but in typical fashion, Amazon has already rolled out a selection of early deals and discounts.

Admittedly, there aren’t that many gadgets on sale yet — at least not in comparison with what we’re likely to see once the promo kicks off in earnest later this week — but we’ve still managed to dig up a few solid deals, particularly for those already embedded in the Amazon ecosystem. These include sizable discounts on the new Echo Spot and Echo Hub, as well as well as streaming devices, security cameras, 4K TVs, and more.

Below, we’ve rounded the best discounts currently available ahead of Prime Big Deal Days. We’ll be updating this guide as more deals drop, so be sure to bookmark this page and keep checking back in the run-up to the event.

The best deals on speakers and earbuds

Amazon’s Echo Spot smart speaker / alarm clock has a 2.83-inch squared-off display for showing the time, weather, music playback, and other bits of info you may want at your bedside. Unlike the original Spot, there’s no camera to worry about having in your bedroom — though it does have a mutable microphone for Alexa voice controls. Read our review.

Amazon’s new Echo Frames look like a pair of stylish regular eyeglasses, but you can use them to listen to music, take calls on, and carry out a range of Alexa-enabled tasks. They also feature up to six hours of audio playback with their open-ear design. Read our Carrera Cruiser review.

  • Amazon is selling the fifth-gen Echo Dot for $22.99 ($27 off), which matches its all-time low. The Alexa-enabled smart speaker can be used as a Wi-Fi extender for Eero mesh networks like the Echo Pop, though it delivers richer sound with more bass. It also features a few advanced sensors, including a temperature sensor and an ultrasound motion detector that can detect when you enter a room. Read our review.
  • If you’re a Prime member who has never subscribed to Amazon Music Unlimited, you can sign up for four months for free for a limited time. Non-Prime members, meanwhile, can get three months free. The ad-free streaming service typically costs $9.99 a month and grants access to more than 100 million songs as well as millions of podcast episodes.

Amazon’s latest Echo Show 8 features spatial audio and room adaptation software for improved audio quality. It also displays a different homescreen on its eight-inch display based on whether you’re standing near it or farther away. Read our review.

  • If you’re looking for a smart display that’s smaller than the Echo Show 8, the latest Echo Show 5 is also available at Amazon with a TP-Link Tapo Smart Color Bulb for $49.99, down from $114.98. The Show 8 offers a higher-res 13-megapixel camera and supports Zoom, rendering it a better option for video calls. But if you’re just looking for an Alexa-enabled smart display to play music, get weather reports, set alarms, and perform other tasks, the 5.5-inch Show 5 is still a solid option that’s perfectly sized for a nightstand.
  • The fourth-gen Echo is matching its all-time low of $49.99 ($50 off) at Amazon right now. Despite its age, the smart speaker still manages to deliver more robust sound than any of Amazon’s entry-level speakers. Plus, unlike the Pop and the latest Echo Dot, the standard Echo can double as a smart home hub with Zigbee support. Read our review.

Amazon’s second-gen Echo Buds offer a comfortable design, good ANC, and a natural ambient sound mode. They support hands-free Alexa commands as well. Read our review.

The latest Emberton speaker is an IP67-rated Bluetooth speaker with great sound, long-lasting battery life, and a timeless design that takes a cue from Marshall’s classic guitar amps.

  • If you don’t need noise cancellation, Amazon’s latest Echo Buds are also down to an all-time low of $24.99 ($24.99 off) at Amazon. Unlike the Echo Buds with ANC, Amazon’s third-gen pair of wireless earbuds offer a semi-open design that makes it easy to pay attention to your surroundings. They also support multipoint pairing and integrate well with Amazon Alexa for hands-free voice control.

The best deals on TVs and streaming devices

Amazon’s latest streaming stick is faster than its predecessor with Wi-Fi 6E and double the storage. It also now displays widgets and artwork when idle while continuing to offer Alexa integration.

  • The latest Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is on sale for $24.99 (50 percent off) at Amazon, which matches its best price to date. In addition to support for 4K streaming, the gadget offers broad HDR support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10 Plus. It also integrates well with Amazon Alexa — much like the higher-end Fire TV Stick 4K Max — but lacks Wi-Fi 6E support and offers less storage.
  • LG’s take-anywhere StanbyMe TV is on sale for around $796.99 ($203 off) at Amazon, which matches the lowest prices we’ve seen on the unique set. The 27-inch smart TV packs a ho-hum 1080p 60Hz IPS panel; however, the real draw is that the battery-powered touchscreen is mounted on a surprisingly elegant stand, which allows you to easily wheel the TV to whichever room you feel is best for binging X-Men ‘97. The latest Hisense 4K TVs boast excellent value for image quality and Google Play, giving you access to a wide selection of streaming apps. They also support Dolby Vision, HDR, and HDR10 Plus.

The newest Fire HD 10 offers a sharper display, but the Fire HD 8 is still a decent device for tapping into Amazon content, especially since it offers relatively long battery life and support for both USB-C and wireless charging. Read our review.

The 2023 Amazon Fire HD 10 sports a 10.1-inch, 1080p display and 3GB of RAM, which is plenty if you’re streaming or browsing. It’s lighter than the last-gen model, too, and comes with support for both the Made for Amazon Stylus Pen and Amazon’s handwriting recognition technology.

  • You can pick up an Amazon Smart Plug for just $12.99 ($12 off) at Amazon, which matches its lowest price to date. It also has two 10-gigabit ethernet ports that offer generous bandwidth for wired networks.

  • Eero’s last-gen router, the Eero Pro 6E, is on sale for $159.99 ($90 off) at Amazon, which marks a new all-time low. The mesh router was the first in Eero’s lineup to support Wi-Fi 6E and faster than gigabit speeds. Each unit covers up to 2,000 square feet, but you can buy extra routers if you want to expand coverage. Right now, for instance, a pair is going for $259.99 ($140 off) and a three-pack for $349.99 ($200 off). Read our review.
  • Amazon’s older Eero 6 Plus mesh router is also on sale for $99.99 ($40 off) at Amazon, which is $10 shy of its best price to date. The dual-band gigabit system covers up to 1,500 square feet and supports over 75 connected devices, but unlike the faster Eero Pro 6E, it only supports Wi-Fi 6. It’s also available in a two-pack for $159.99 ($80 off) and a three-pack for $194.99 ($105 off).

The newest Ring doorbell adds better video quality, head-to-toe view, and speedy response times for a battery doorbell. It works great with Amazon Alexa and can record locally to a Ring Alarm Pro, but the battery still only lasts two months.

The flagship Ring doorbell has the best video quality, good connectivity, and excellent motion detection. It works smoothly with Amazon Alexa but is expensive, requires a subscription for most features, and doesn’t offer 24/7 recording.

  • If you want a really budget-friendly video doorbell, our top pick — the Blink Video Doorbell — is available at Amazon with a Sync Module 2 for $39.99 ($30 off), which is $5 shy of the bundle’s best price to date. The 1080p video doorbell offers all the basics you need, including support for motion detection, night vision, and two-way audio. You don’t get some of the more advanced features, including smart alerts, but the included Sync Module 2 lets you see a live view and use local storage without a premium subscription.

The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Pro delivers high-quality video with adjustable, accurate radar-powered motion detection, 2,000 lumens of light, and a good digital zoom. It offers smart alerts for people or motion and works with Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Ring’s excellent app.

The Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam is the company’s first indoor camera that can rotate 360 degrees to give you a full view of your home. While it’s a big upgrade to the company’s smallest camera, it lacks automatic motion tracking. Read our impressions.

  • Ring’s Stick Up Cam Battery has returned to its all-time low of $54.99 ($45 off) at Amazon. The battery-powered 1080p camera features a flexible mounting bracket and weatherproofing, so you can use it indoors or outside. It also supports two-way audio, night video, and motion alerts, though if you want to record video, you’ll need to pay for a Ring Protect plan (which starts at $4.99 a month).
  • If you’re looking for an indoor security camera, the second-gen Ring Indoor Cam is also available at Amazon for $29.99 ($30 off), its lowest price to date. The wired security camera offers sharp 1080p HD resolution, along with a built-in siren and two-way audio. However, unlike its predecessor, it comes with color night vision and a physical privacy cover, which allows you to disable video and audio recording.
  • The AA-powered Blink Outdoor 4, Amazon’s latest outdoor security camera, is on sale at an all-time low of $39.99 ($60 off) at Amazon. Like the Blink Video Doorbell, the 1080p camera offers all the essentials, including motion detection support, night vision, and two-way audio. It also offers a wider field of view than the previous model and onboard person detection — that is, as long as you’re willing to pay $3 a month for the privilege.

The 1080p Blink Mini 2 adds weather resistance to the affordable security camera, so you can use it both indoors and out, while continuing to offer a ball-and-socket mount for easy mounting to a wall. It has the option of local storage with a Sync Module or cloud storage and features like person detection for $3 a month. Read our review.
