Warner Bros. announced the news on Wednesday amid a flurry of changes to its upcoming release schedule. J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond has been moved up to Oct. 1, 2027, bumping The Batman Part 2 out of its previous date and onto Feb. 18, 2028.
Matt Reeves shared the news on social media with a short camera test video showcasing Pattinson's Batman dramatically turning toward the camera. Snow falls around him as all signs point to The Batman Part 2 taking place during the winter after Reeves had previously posted about "snow tires." Might Mr. Freeze show up for some cold-themed crimes? Not sure, though a more fantastical villain like Freeze might not fit into the realistic world of Reeves' films, which he's called a "Crime Saga."
This isn't the first time The Batman Part 2 has been delayed. It was originally scheduled for an October 2025 release, before being delayed to October 2026 and again to October 2027. The first film came out March 4, 2022, meaning we're looking at a six-year gap between Reeves' Batman movies, barring any more changes to Part 2's release date.
The Batman Part 2 will bring back stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan may also reprise his role as the Joker, according to Variety. New to Reeves stand-alone Batman-verse are actors Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry.
Who the newcomers are playing still seems a bit up in the air. While some outlets, like Entertainment Weekly, have said Stan will play Harvey Dent/Two-Face, rumors have stated Stan will be playing the serial killer Victor Zsasz while Henry would be Dent. Scarlett Johansson will reportedly play Gilda Dent, Harvey's wife, while Charles Dance may play Charles Dent, Harvey's father.
