September 2024 is bringing a fun variety of movies for different audiences, and these, along with some of August's most popular movies, are now playing in theaters. After some rough years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2023 was a big year for cinema, and this streak continues in 2024. So far, this year has seen some big hits on the big screen from different genres, such as the action-comedy The Fall Guy, the drama Challengers, horror with Late Night With The Devil and Longlegs, and the action movie Furiosa.

August brought some exciting movies from different genres, of which some can still be enjoyed in theaters, such as the drama movie It Ends With Ends and the latest entry in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus. Joining Tim Burton's long-awaited Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and A24's horror movie The Front Room this week are a remake of a horror movie, an action comedy starring Dave Bautista, the latest project by Kevin Smith, and a comedy-drama movie where a young girl meets her older self.

10 Speak No Evil

Speak No Evil is a psychological thriller directed by James Watkins and a remake of the 2022 Danish movie of the same name by Christian Tafdrup. Speak No Evil follows the Daltons – Louise, Ben, and their daughter Agnes – who go on a dream holiday to Europe. There they meet Paddy, his wife Ciara, and their son Ant, and they quickly bond. Paddy and his family invite the Daltons to their idyllic country estate, but once there, the Daltons begin to notice their “friends”' strange behavior, while some disturbing truths come to light.

The Killer’s Game follows Joe Flood, a hitman who learns he has a terminal illness. Deciding to take control of his fate, Joe takes a hit out on himself, but the hitmen he hires also target his ex-girlfriend, Maize. Joe then has to fend off a team of fellow assassins before it’s too late for Maize and himself.

The 4:30 Movie is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age comedy written and directed by Kevin Smith. The 4:30 Movie takes the audience back to the summer of 1986 to follow three 16-year-old friends. The group spends their Saturdays sneaking into the local Cineplex to watch movies, but one day, when one of them invites his crush to see an R-rated movie, hilarity breaks loose as the theater manager and some teenage rivalries interfere with his plans. The 4:30 Movie is loosely based on Kevin Smith’s own experiences sneaking into movie theaters as a teenager.

On her 18th birthday, while celebrating with her friends, a mushroom trip leads Elliott Labrant to meet her wisecracking 39-year-old self. Even after the mushroom trip, Elliott keeps seeing Older Elliott, who starts giving her advice and warnings about different areas of their lives and what she should and shouldn’t do. This experience forces Elliott to rethink her relationships and what she thought she knew about family, love, and friendship – but Older Elliott is also given something to think about.

6 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

When Astrid finds the town’s model in the attic at their old house, she opens the portal to the Afterlife again, letting the legendary and chaotic Betelgeuse back into the human world. To make it even messier, there’s a ghost detective after them as well as Betelgeuse’s ex-wife, Delores.

Reagan is told through a conversation between former KGB agents Andrew Novikov and Viktor Ivanov, whose lives became linked with Reagan’s after he caught the Soviets’ attention during his time as a Hollywood actor.

Once it’s all installed at home, AIA learns all the behaviors of the Pile family and begins to actively participate in their needs. However, AIA starts to develop self-awareness, and it becomes a bit too involved in the lives of the Pikes, interfering with their daily activities and more.

Frida and Slater immediately bond, and she becomes infatuated with him, so she agrees to travel with him to his private island for a luxurious party.

Blink Twice is a thriller directed by Zoë Kravitz in her directorial debut. It’s the story of Frida, a cocktail waitress who meets tech billionaire Slater King at a fundraising gala. To her surprise, Frida and Slater immediately bond, and she becomes infatuated with him, so she agrees to travel with him to his private island for a luxurious party. Once there, Frida meets Slater’s friends, but what starts as a great time gradually becomes a nightmare as more and more strange things happen around her, making Frida question her reality.
