EXCLUSIVE: 4/20 is a day marijuana enthusiasts celebrate what they consider to be the wonders of weed, but a new documentary takes issue with that narrative.
The Documentary+ streaming platform is choosing the unofficial holiday to premiere THC, INC, a film that offers “a hard look at youth targeting, high-potency products, and the public health impact of legalization.”
Eric Burton and Jesse Russell directed the film which features commentary from experts including Dr. Kevin A. Sabet, an American drug policy scholar who served as a White House Office of National Drug Control Policy advisor, and Laura Bianchi, an attorney highly regarded for her knowledge of cannabis law and the burgeoning business of legal marijuana.

“At a moment when cannabis has transformed into a multi-billion-dollar industry, the film takes a critical look at rising potency levels, shifting regulations, and increasingly sophisticated marketing tactics—particularly those impacting younger audiences,” notes a release. “THC, INC explores how evolving cannabis laws are reshaping access, perception, and risk for a new generation.”
Geoff Clark, CEO of Documentary+, commented, “THC, INC is exactly the kind of bold, culturally relevant storytelling we’re building Documentary+ around. Releasing the film on 4/20 is intentional—it invites audiences to look beyond the celebration and engage with the deeper realities shaping the cannabis industry today. This is a conversation that feels both urgent and necessary.”
THC, INC will be available to stream across all Documentary+ platforms, including FAST channels. The documentary is produced by Wayfarer Studios, an independent company known for award-winning fiction and nonfiction projects including documentaries Will & Harper (shortlisted for the Academy Awards), Racist Trees, The Herricanes, and Black Is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story.
Writing on X, Dr. Sabet said of THC, INC, “This groundbreaking documentary—which I produced—will expose Big Marijuana and shed light on the damage the industry has done to families all over the country.”
THC, INC is a Doc+ Original, joining Documentary+’s “flagship slate of premium documentary premieres, showcasing bold storytelling from both emerging voices and acclaimed filmmakers.” Among other films streaming on Documentary+ are Still Single, The Power of Pickleball, Oscar-shortlisted A Swim Lesson, Oh Yeah, and Charm City, alongside Emmy award-recognized films such as Imilliskate, The Sentence of Michael Thompson, and The Hobby, and hundreds more.
