Teyana Taylor was seen throughout the Oscars broadcast cheering her fellow artists on as they took the stage following their win.

The One Battle After Another actor was nominated in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category, but lost to Weapons villain Amy Madigan. When Zoe Saldaña announced Madigan as a winner, Taylor jumped out of her seat and enthusiastically applauded for her fellow nominee, which some people thought was “off.”

“The world holds so much misery that miserable hearts forget the face of happiness,” Taylor wrote on the microblogging platform, X, quoting a user who shared a clip of that moment. “They grow comfortable being sore losers, so when they see real sportsmanship it unsettles them! like holy water touching a demon.”

She continued, “Because clapping for someone else’s victory requires something many people never learned…how to win with grace & pure joy, and how to lose with grace, chin up & dignity.”

Taylor expressed pure joy throughout the Oscars night. After Michael B. Jordan won at the Oscars, Taylor cheered him on as he took the stage to accept his award for his work on Sinners.

Earlier that night, Taylor clapped fervently as the Academy Awards got underway at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Taylor ended the night by going up the stage alongside her One Battle After Another castmates to accept the award for Best Picture as the film took the top honor of the night.

At the SAG Awards earlier this month, Taylor expressed more happiness, clapping and dancing, as Sinners won.
