Netflix's Territory has been a major success for the streaming service, and it is a great reminder to watch David Fincher's serial killer show with 97% on Rotten Tomatoes that Netflix canceled five years ago. Territory is just the latest in a long line of incredibly successful Netflix original dramas, with the series receiving a lot of praise from critics and fans alike. However, many of these past shows have also had the unfortunate fate of getting canceled far too soon, such as this David Fincher series that acts as the perfect follow-up to Territory.

Netflix's perfect Yellowstone replacement Territory has finally been released, with the Australian Western drama series now streaming. The series opens on the death of Daniel Lawson, the head of the world's largest cattle station, with the rest of the series following the Lawson family as they battle over who will succeed Daniel as the new leader of Marianne Station. This battle over Daniel's successor leads to gangsters, environmental destruction, and even a murder plot, with all of these plot threads coming together to craft an incredibly exciting Western series for Netflix.

Territory's Anna Torv Also Starred In Netflix's Critically Acclaimed Drama Mindhunter

Emily Lawson Isn't Her Only Netflix Character

From executive producers David Fincher and Charlize Theron comes Mindhunter, a series that chronicles the founding of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit used to track and apprehend serial killers. Mindhunter follows Agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) as they work to establish a framework for understanding the minds of some of America's most dangerous serial killers. Mindhunter adapts a number of true crime stories, including the BTK murders and the notorious Co-Ed Killer, Edmund Kemper.

Anna Torv is the star of Netflix's Territory, but this isn't the only series on the streaming service that the actress has starred in. Anna Torv was also one of the stars of Mindhunter, Netflic's critically acclaimed serial killer drama that was first released in 2017 and lasted for two seasons. The show was created by David Fincher and follows the FBI's first serial killer profilers, with Mindhunter featuring all kinds of real-life serial killers as they are interviewed by the show's main characters. The show takes place in the 1970s and 1980s, making it a period piece as well as a drama.

6 Biggest Candidates To Take Over Marianne Station In Territory, Ranked Worst To Best

The battle over who will take over Marianne Station is at the core of Territory's story, and here is every candidate ranked by how good they would do.

Alongside Anna Torv, Mindhunter also stars Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, with this trio making up the main cast of Mindhunter. The first season of Mindhunter was a massive success, with this mostly being due to the popularity of series creator David Fincher, who has previously directed massive movies like Fight Club, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. Fincher was also known for directing the movie Zodiac, with Mindhunter being notable for returning the acclaimed filmmaker to the serial killer genre.

Anna Torv's Territory & Mindhunter Characters Have A Lot In Common

They Are Both Heavily Involved With Murder

Territory and Mindhunter have more in common than simply featuring Anna Torv, as her two characters actually have a lot in common. Notably, both characters are heavily intertwined with murder, albeit in different ways. Territory season 1 focuses on the murder of Daniel Lawson, with Emily being one of the Lawsons who investigated the murder before becoming a suspect herself. Although Daniel's death is not the product of a serial killer, the death at the core of Territory can be seen as a parallel to the serial killer stories in Mindhunter.

Anna Torv's character in Mindhunter is also trying to solve murder mysteries, although she is a bit more disconnected from the cases than Emily Lawson was. In Mindhunter, Anna Torv plays Wendy Carr, a psychology professor who helps the FBI in profiling the first batch of Mindhunter's serial killers. Wendy Carr becomes increasingly involved in the cases as time goes on, with her growing closer to Jonathan Groff and Holy McCallany's characters. However, it is eventually revealed that Wendy is harboring a secret, with the fact that she is a closeted lesbian becoming a major storyline in season 2.

Why Mindhunter Was Canceled After Season 2

David Fincher Has Explained It

Despite being critically acclaimed, Mindhunter was canceled after season 2, and the reasons why are complicated. David Fincher was heavily involved in Mindhunter, leading to him pausing production on the third season in 2019 so that he could work on Mank. David Fincher than became busy with other projects, and rather than forcing the cast of Mindhunter to wait around, Netflix then released them from their contracts. This led to Fincher announcing that Mindhunter was done in October 2020.

Netflix dedicated most of season 2 of Mindhunter to the Atlanta child murders case, but how much of the gruesome story was actually true?

David Fincher later explained some of the reasons behind Mindhunter's cancelation, with the massive cost of the series being a driving force behind the show's early demise. Fincher also cited the fact that he was simply tired of working on the show, with him wanting to go back to making movies. As of now, Mindhunter is officially over, with cast members like Anna Torv having moved on to new projects like Netflix's Territory.
