Team Liquid parts ways with offlaner Ace after one year

1 hour ago 6

Team Liquid has ended its partnership with Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard Christensen, the Danish offlaner who joined the organization less than a year ago. The move, which became official on September 13, 2026, lands squarely in the middle of the annual Dota 2 roster shuffle season.

Ace’s departure closes an 11-month chapter that began on October 9, 2025, when he and support player Erik “tOfu” Engel were brought in as part of a sweeping roster overhaul following The International 2025.

From rivals to teammates, and back again

The signing of Ace and tOfu last October was notable partly because of the irony baked into it. Between 2022 and 2024, both players had been thorns in Team Liquid’s side, featuring prominently against the organization in major tournament finals while competing under different banners.

Ace spent the years from 2022 to 2025 with Gaimin Gladiators, building a reputation as a skilled offlaner recognized for his play with heroes such as Broodmother and Underlord, and securing multiple Tier 1 titles from 2022 onward.

Before bringing in Ace and tOfu, Team Liquid had already parted ways with offlaner SabeRLighT- and seen longtime captain iNsania retire from competitive play.

The post-TI shuffle machine rolls on

Ace’s departure fits into a broader pattern. The post-TI 2026 period has seen widespread roster fluidity discussions across the European scene, with rumors of potential retirements and extended breaks circulating among top-tier players.

No financial details or legal disputes have been reported in connection with the split.
