Taylor Swift Dropping New Song for Toy Story 5: All the Details
Taylor Swift’s new song will launch fans into infinity and beyond.
After all, in “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which she wrote for the upcoming Toy Story 5 film, Taylor makes a return to her country music roots—with the help of longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
In the track, released June 5, Taylor sings about reuniting with someone or something she was formerly close to, the reminiscent lyrics backed by harmonica and a little extra twang in her voice.
“And I remembered I loved you / Came back when it mattered, I saw you,” the Grammy winner sings in the chorus. “Standing there in the light of the window wearing that same smile / Man, it's been a while / But I knew it, I knew you.”
After being released on YouTube, many fans quickly took to the comment section to reflect on how for Taylor, it seemed like the returning friend in this song was country music.
“TAY COUNTRY IS SOOOO BACK,” one user wrote, while many referenced the very first album she released in 2006, writing, “This is exactly what I thought a Debut vault track would sound like.”
But “I Knew It, I Knew You” doesn’t just mark a return to Taylor’s musical roots. After she worked with different collaborators for her latest album The Life of a Showgirl, the 36-year-old reunited with longtime musical partner Jack for the Toy Story track.

“You created the Toy Story musical world, and we are lucky to get to live in it,” she wrote in a June 5 Instagram post. “By we, I mean myself and my pal @jackantonoff. We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods.”
The Midnights artist also reflected on the song’s genre.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time,” she wrote. “Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”

And indeed, accompanying the caption was a rare, throwback clip from Taylor’s childhood that sees her dressed in a cowgirl outfit complete with boots and a red hat very similar to the one worn by Jessie in the films.
Toy Story 5—which sees Woody (Tom Hanks), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) grapple with the encroachment of technology in the form of a new tablet named Lilypad (Greta Lee)—premieres in theaters June 19.
