After making a rare public appearance recently to promote his next project, The Madison, Taylor Sheridan has returned to hiding to continue building his TV empire. While most would point to Yellowstone as the project that helped turn the Western scribe into one of Hollywood’s most prominent and controversial screenwriters, he’s actually been around writing projects that far predate the Kevin Costner-led contemporary series. One of Sheridan’s most famous projects is Wind River, the wintry Western starring Jeremy Renner, whom he would later go on to work with on all five seasons of Mayor of Kingstown. Over the years, Sheridan also penned the script for other famous neo-Westerns, such as Hell or High Water, which stars Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine. He even penned the script for the failed Tom Clancy adaptation starring Michael B. Jordan, Without Remorse.

However, the project that jump-started his career is the first script he wrote, Sicario, in 2015. The high-octane neo-Western follows a by-the-books FBI agent who gets roped into a border control task force that’s operating under its own rules. The film features some big stars like Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, and even Jon Bernthal, but only del Toro and Brolin returned for the 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. There have been whispers of a third Sicario movie for a while now, but Sheridan is tied up with other projects that are keeping him from finishing the script. In America, Sicario is streaming exclusively on Netflix for now, but globally, the film is charting in the Apple TV VOD top 10 in several countries around the world and picking up steam every day. Denis Villeneuve directed Sicario.

Paramount just announced yesterday that the show had been renewed for a second season. Sheridan is also developing a new Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser)-centered spin-off, Dutton Ranch, which just got its first look.
