EXCLUSIVE: The writing team of Tawnya Bhattacharya and Ali Laventhol has a new project in development at Hulu: a TV adaptation of the Trish Lundy YA thriller The One That Got Away With Murder.
The show’s logline is as follows: When a guarded new girl with a dark past transfers to a high school across the country, she’s drawn to the former golden boy who is now a notorious outcast suspected of killing his girlfriend. Determined to know the truth, she secretly investigates, uncovering a web of secrets and lies, as she closes in on the killer who got away with murder.
Bhattacharya and Laventhol executive produce alongside Sidonie Dumas, Nicolas Atlan, and Alexandra Zimbler Smith for Gaumont (Narcos, Lupin), the potential series’ studio.
Lundy’s book was published two years ago through its Square Fish imprint to high praise from Kirkus, Booklist, and other outlets, as well as being a Barnes & Noble Best YA of 2024. Lundy’s next YA thriller, The Worst Is Yet To Come, is slated for publication this Fall. She is repped by Paradigm and Inkwell Management.
As Deadline announced exclusively in August, Bhattacharya and Laventhol are currently developing their original legal procedural, The Advocate for ABC, which has Isaac Aptaker & Elizabeth Berger’s The Walk-Up Co. attached to produce, through 20th Television. In addition to their work on Peacock’s Bel-Air and Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys, their credits include Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia and ABC’s A Million Little Things. Bhattacharya is also the founder and owner of the TV and feature writing school, Script Anatomy. They are repped by Paradigm, Adventure Media, and Yorn Levine.
Gaumont is repped by Paradigm, and Longarzo Vance Klevan Fried, who negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio.
