'1000-Lb. Sisters' Star Tammy Slaton Claps Back at Claims She Mistreats Her Family
Tammy Slaton’s family has her back.
As the 1000-Lb. Sisters star continues to document her weight loss journey on the TLC series, she received encouragement from her sister, Amanda Halterman, who shared screenshots from their heartwarming video calls while Tammy was in treatment to lose weight.
“Flashback to rehab FaceTime days,” Amanda wrote in an Instagram post Jan. 9. “We are so proud of you sis.”
Amanda went on to offer Tammy—who stars alongside their sister, Amy Slaton, on the TLC series—supportive words to carry her through her bid to improve her health.
“Keep pushing forward to accomplish your goals,” she continued. “You got this and we got you!”
Tammy, 38, recently shared some positivity of her own as she cheered her social media followers on amid their own battles.
“Whether [you’ve lost] 500 lbs. like I [did], or you almost lost all your weight,” the reality star said in an Instagram video in September 2024, “whether you deal with depression or feel like you don’t want to do tomorrow, just know you are safe here.”
But that doesn’t mean Tammy’s journey has been smooth sailing. During the 1000-Lb. Sisters season finale in December, she learned she would have to give up vaping before she could receive skin removal surgery for her excess skin, as nicotine products increase the risk of complications with healing her wounds.

“I know it's going to be really hard for her to quit vaping because instead of turning around one addiction, she went to another one,” Amy said during the episode. “She went from food to vaping. I think it's her security blanket at this point.”
Tammy’s surgeon, Dr. J. Peter Rubin, urged her to focus on kicking her vaping habit and improving her nutrition before she could safely be operated on.
“We got to get those numbers up,” he said. “That's going to take about two months minimum.”
