Talay Riley’s loved ones have been left in shock.

The songwriter—real name Mark Orabiyi—was killed in a stabbing incident in east London’s Silvertown on June 5, according to the Metropolitan Police. He was 35.

Police were called to Silvertown on reports that a man had been stabbed and, upon arriving at the scene, found Orabiyi suffering from wounds in the garden of a nearby property. While paramedics responded to his injuries, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police reported that another man in his 20s—whose name they did not share—was taken to a nearby hospital, with police confirming his wounds were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Following the incident, two men aged 27 and 25 and one 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder. In a June 7 update, police confirmed the 27-year-old man had been released on bail pending further inquiries, and that the other two individuals had been released with no further action.

“Our investigation continues at pace,” Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke shared in the statement. “I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to speak to police. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might have CCTV or other footage from the morning of the incident that could assist our investigation.”

She added, “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Mark’s family and loved ones.”

Following Orabiyi’s tragic death, his brother Michael Orabiyi—a songwriter and producer known as Scribz Riley—recalled what would become their last conversation.

“My heart is shattered! This doesn’t feel real. It feels like a bad dream,” he captioned a June 7 post. “Just before he went to sleep we spoke about the future, staying positive and about everything we still had left to do. I never imagined that would be our last conversation.”

His brother, who included photos of Orabiyi from over the years in his post, continued, “He had one of the purest hearts I’ve ever known. He loved deeply, gave freely, and touched countless people through his talent, kindness, and spirit. The outpouring of love already shows how many lives he impacted.”

Throughout his career as a singer-songwriter, Orabiyi worked with many fellow celebrities including Zendaya, Britney Spears (“Clumsy”), Dua Lipa (“Last Dance”) and Khalid (“Young Dumb & Broke”), with many artists expressing their sadness over his untimely passing.

“Big hugs scribz i’m so sorry,” wrote Kehlani in the comment section of the tribute, while Ella Mai added, “sending so much love&light your way.”

Meanwhile, Orabiyi’s family said in an additional statement they will always remember him for his “his kindness, beautiful spirit, and remarkable talent.”

"Mark was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He brought love, light, and joy to our family and to all who knew him,” they added in the statement shared by the Metropolitan Police. “His presence touched many lives, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
