Syfy’s Cult Classic Western Officially Says Goodbye to Free Streaming

Battlestar Galactica is one of the few pioneering sci-fi shows to quickly develop a cult following that remains hopeful for a reboot to this day. Created by Star Trek veteran Ronald D. Moore, the military space drama follows humanity's last survivors as they are forced into exile after the robotic Cylons launch a devastating genocidal attack on the Twelve Colonies. It premiered as a three-hour miniseries on the Sci Fi Channel, now Syfy, in December 2003, later expanding into four seasons, concluding on March 20, 2009.

Upon its debut, the post-apocalyptic series received critical acclaim, a feat it still maintains today, with a 95% average critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned numerous accolades, including 19 Emmy nominations with three wins, as well as a place on Time's 100 Best TV Shows of All Time. Few Syfy shows have matched Battlestar Galactica's success since its conclusion or retained such a loyal fan base. However, one supernatural Western released in the 2010s built an equally devoted community and also ended after four seasons.

Titled Wynonna Earp, the genre-blending fantasy drama stars Melanie Scrofano as the hard-drinking descendant of legendary frontier lawman Wyatt Earp. The series premiered on Syfy in the U.S. on April 1, 2016, and concluded its run on April 9, 2021. It soon became available on free streaming and, now five years later, has officially appeared in Tubi's "Leaving Soon" collection, meaning its 49-episode run will soon disappear from the free, ad-supported streaming service. Tubi has not provided an exact removal date, although departures commonly occur around monthly catalog rotations, making an early October exit increasingly likely.

One Piece has run for decades on one very simple engine, which is a group of people who each want something impossible and have decided to go and get it together.
You collect people. Your ideal crew is a set of misfits who were each written off somewhere else before you turned up and offered them a better idea.
The world is enormous and deliberately ridiculous, and the emotional gut punches land harder because of that rather than in spite of it.
You would set sail knowing the map runs out, which is more or less the entire point of it.

The Continent

You would rather be feared and useful than liked and useless. The Continent is a world where the monsters are the straightforward part of the job and the people are where it all gets complicated.

Witchers get paid to do what nobody else will and resented for existing at all, which is a trade most people would refuse and you would probably accept.
You have no real illusions about which side is the good one, largely because on the Continent that question tends to have a disappointing answer.
The best of these stories are not about the fighting. They are about somebody with a rigid code being repeatedly cornered into caring about people.
You would take the coin, finish the job properly, and be out of town before the story got told wrong.

Camp Half-Blood

You want the myths to be real and loose in the actual world, and you want to find out at about thirteen that you were never anywhere near as ordinary as everybody kept telling you.

Percy Jackson takes the oldest stories we have and drops them into car parks and diners, which makes the gods considerably funnier and a great deal worse.
You would be the kid every school gave up on, who turns out to have been built for something nobody thought to test for.
The series is genuinely about friendship rather than destiny, and it says so out loud every time a prophecy tries to get in the way.
Camp Half-Blood is the real fantasy here: a place where the thing that made you difficult everywhere else is the thing that makes you belong.

'Wynonna Earp' Leaves Free Streaming Soon

As of this publication, all four seasons of Wynonna Earp remain available on Tubi, but following its removal, viewers can watch the series through paid services including AMC+, while individual seasons are still available for digital purchase elsewhere. This departure does not currently affect Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, Tubi's 2024 continuation starring Scrofano in her signature role.

With a 92% Tomatometer score, Wynonna Earp follows Wynonna as she battles demonic revenants alongside the immortal gunslinger Doc Holliday, played by Tim Rozon. Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, Shamier Anderson, and Varun Saranga round out the unconventional group defending the cursed town of Purgatory.
