Sydney Sweeney continues her streaming domination by hitting a major milestone with one of her most recent releases. Sweeney's list of hit movies and TV shows just continues to grow, with the actress now one of the most popular young stars in Hollywood. Sweeney will also now have more time for new projects, as HBO's Euphoria ended with season 3. Throughout the years, Sweeney has appeared in many thrillers, movies and TV shows. Among them is one of the best HBO limited series ever, Sharp Objects. On the big screen, Sweeney's thrillers have come with a certain edge to them.

For instance, she joined the crime thriller world in the smaller Americana, whereas in the star-studded survival thriller Eden, Sweeney was joined by actors like Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, and more. More recently, Sweeney was one of the three stars of the best-selling novel adaptation The Housemaid. The R-rated psychological thriller saw her play Millie Calloway, the new housemaid of a family formed by Amanda Seyfried's Nina Winchester and Brandon Sklenar's Andrew, with all three holding their own secrets. The movie became a box office hit, and The Housemaid has just passed the milestone of 200 days on Amazon VOD’s Top 25.

Why The Housemaid Continues To Dominate Streaming

The Housemaid was released in theaters on December 19, 2025. The R-rated psychological thriller went on to finish its theatrical run with a massive total of $400.5 million. That major success at the box office quickly led to a sequel for The Housemaid being announced. Now, just a few months from the movie's 1-year anniversary, Sweeney's latest film continues to prove itself a hit on VOD. There are a few reasons for its continued success. For starters, given the movie's successful run in theaters, many who enjoyed The Housemaid are now rewatching it on streaming, with those who missed out getting in on the fun.

The Housemaid is currently the 24th movie on Amazon VOD’s Top 25.

Another key factor is the popularity of its leads. Sweeney is one of Hollywood's biggest young stars and has been so for years. Seyfried has appeared in so many box office hits and critical darlings. Finally, Sklenar is part of Taylor Sheridan's hit Yellowstone franchise, playing Spencer Dutton in 1923, and a popular fancast for Batman in James Gunn's DC Universe. Finally, The Housemaid holds a decent 74% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect 92% audience score. As such, when viewers turn to reviews of the R-rated thriller, the positive reputation of Sweeney's movie speaks loud.

The Housemaid's Third Movie Is Almost Guaranteed At This Point

Lionsgate green-lit The Housemaid sequel in January, with the movie's release date being revealed in March. The sequel will be titled The Housemaid's Secret, named after the second book in Freida McFadden's hit franchise, and is set to debut in theaters on December 17, 2027, two years after the original.

Based on The Housemaid's reported budget of $35 million and its $400.5 million gross, it would need a disaster for the sequel to fail at the box office. As such, based on that, the fact that it has just hit a colossal streaming milestone, and how there is a third book in the series of novels, The Housemaid Is Watching, it seems like Sweeney has a thriller trilogy on her hands. The sequel to The Housemaid has added Spider-Man franchise's Kirsten Dunst and Love Story's Paul Anthony Kelly to its cast.
