Surprise New Conjuring Release Coming to Netflix Next Month

The Conjuring horror franchise continues in a new video game

Netflix has announced that the next entry in the ever-expanding Conjuring Universe is The Conjuring: Unspoken. It is set to be released on the streaming platform this October, but it may not be exactly what fans expect. That's because Unspoken will be the franchise's first-ever dedicated video game.

The game was revealed in the monthly New on Netflix newsletter. The short synopsis describes Unspoken as follows:

What is haunting the Red Lion Inn? Scan for paranormal signals and investigate the eerie events troubling a grieving family in this cinematic game.

That's not much to go on, but it does sound like what a Conjuring game would be like.

While this will be the first stand-alone game in the series, Fortnite previously included a map themed to The Conjuring: Last Rites ahead of the film's release last year. That experience tasked players with exploring a spooky house besieged by some of the franchise's iconic supernatural entities from a first-person perspective. Much of the gameplay looks like it could fit with the description of Unspoken, though without official screenshots or gameplay footage, it's hard to know how the game will play. As part of Netflix Games, we do know that it will be playable on Android and iOS devices.

How does The Conjuring: Unspoken fit into the series?

With so few details about Unspoken available at the moment, it is nearly impossible to say where in the Conjuring timeline the game will take place. That being said, it feels safe to assume that it will cover an original story and may not concern series protagonists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Typically, however, spinoff titles in the series don't carry the Conjuring name, so there is still a possibility that familiar faces may show up.

Beyond Unspoken, there's more Conjuring content for fans to get excited about. It has already been announced that the next film will be titled The Conjuring: First Communion and is set to be released on Sept. 10, 2027. While it was initially believed that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's Ed and Lorraine Warren would have their story concluded in Last Rites, it was later clarified that the film served as the end of "Phase One" for the universe and the next film would start the second phase.
