James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow is only about a year away, and filming is well underway on the follow-up to 2025's Superman. On Monday, Gunn gave DC fans a promising update on the 2027 film, offering a crystal clear and enticing look at Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) in his trademark Warsuit.

Gunn previously teased Luthor's Warsuit in the original announcement for Man of Tomorrow, which featured artwork of Superman and Lex palling around, as illustrated by DC Comics president and chief creative officer Jim Lee.

According to Gunn, Man of Tomorrow will be "a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat." That big threat appears to be the alien Brainiac, who will be played by Lars Eidinger in the film.

"It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie," Gunn told Howard Stern in an interview last year.

Luthor's Warsuit debuted in the pages of DC's Action Comics #544, originally published in June 1983. The popular green-and-purple armor was immortalized in action figure form the following year, as part of Kenner's Super Powers Collection, and has endured as Lex's go-to anti-Superman tech.

Man of Tomorrow will see David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles, and many other actors from the previous Superman film will also return. That includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. New to the cinematic Superman family are Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern and Adria Arjona, reportedly as Maxima. Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, and Sinqua Walls have been cast in unspecified roles.

Man of Tomorrow will follow the 2026 releases of Supergirl (directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock) and the body-horror film Clayface (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan, and starring Tom Rhys Harries). The follow-up to Superman is slated to hit movie theaters on July 9, 2027.
