Superman's New Anti-Magic Armor Removes His Biggest Weakness

To many, Superman is the definition of overpowered. In some ways, the Man of Tomorrow's critics aren't wrong. Kal-El is stronger than most gods, faster than anyone not named the Flash, and can take physical punishment that would destroy moons and planets. There's also his heat vision, freeze-breath, and more. Even though he’s one of the most powerful characters in comics history, he’s not without his weaknesses.

Most people familiar with Superman know that his biggest weakness is Kryptonite. Green Kryptonite is the most common and can make Kal-El vulnerable to physical harm. There are even some people with electrical powers that can, at the very least, stop the Man of Steel for a little while. Out of all the things mentioned, there’s one thing that can always stop Superman, and that’s magic.

Some people reading this may be thinking that it’s obvious that magic can stop Kal-El. Most people are vulnerable to magic. What makes this a big deal is that Superman can be hurt by the weakest of spells. Luckily for him, Clark is on a team full of people who can protect him from magic. In this case, it was Zatanna who kept him safe.

Superman Gets A Magical Protection Suit

During the Justice League: The Dark Realm Special, readers see some of the backstory of a new character named Andrés Aguilar. It’s here that it’s revealed that Andrés lost his daughter and that he was later possessed by a Central American and Mexican spirit named Cadejos.

Later in the issue, the League is looking for Cadejos. What sets off alarms is that Zatanna (the Prime Magus) doesn’t recognize the magic surrounding Andrés. Of course, the heroes aren't going to let one of their teammates out on their own. So, with that in mind, Rana Dorada, Shazam, Blue Beetle, Boruka, Krypto, Wonder Woman, Batman, Zatanna, and Superman jump into action against a magic threat. Since Kal-El is vulnerable to magic, Zatanna sets him up with a suit to protect him.

After a hard-fought battle, Cadejos tells the Justice League that the threat they defeated was connected to Darkseid. That news is bad enough. It gets worse when he says that something on the other side of the portal they closed may have gotten out. What that is remains a mystery, but it can’t be good.

More Darkseid News Is Never Good

At the end of the crossover event DC K.O., readers learn that Darkseid lost the battle, but the war for supremacy continued. The people who participated in the tournament to be King Omega were given visions that would help them in the upcoming battle with Darkseid. For example, in Justice League: Knight Vision Special, Lex Luthor and Batman’s visions lead them to find out that weapons from Apokolips are being sold on Earth.

Unfortunately, no one knows when that fight will start or what form it will come in. What is clear from one-shots like Justice League: The Dark Realm Special is that the Justice League will need all the help they can get. That includes magical protection given to them by the Prime Magus, Zatanna.

Zatanna creating armor that protects Superman from magic is a game changer. Darkseid is aware that his greatest enemy (Kal-El) is vulnerable to it, but now the Justice League has a counter to that. Sadly, Darkseid is no fool. He will find a way to break the spell, even if that means killing Zatanna before his war begins.
