"Superhero Workplace Comedy" Starring Aaron Paul Already Deserves To Be On Your Wishlist

1 day ago 2

Dispatch is a superhero workplace comedy that was announced during The Game Awards this year, and it's one of the games that should be on your wishlist for 2025. The Game Awards saw the reveal of a host of new and exciting upcoming video game releases, and it's very possible you may have overlooked this title starring Aaron Paul and Laura Bailey, who both appeared on-stage to announce the game.

Produced by AdHoc Studio, Dispatch is an action-adventure game where you'll play as Robert Robertson, a superhero also known as Mecha Man. Unfortunately, his mech suit is destroyed in battle, and Robertson is recruited by another superhero who promises to make an improved version of it. Making ends meet, Robertson finds himself working as a dispatcher at a superhero dispatch center, instead of a superhero at a superhero agency.

Everything We Know About Dispatch

What To Expect From The Story & Gameplay

The official Uncut trailer released by AdHoc Studio (via YouTube) after TGA highlights more of what players can expect when Dispatch releases sometime in 2025. Combining dark humor with a setting not unlike a mash-up of The Office and a Marvel-like superhero universe, gameplay appears to revolve around a choice-based narrative with management sim elements. The trailer, above, shows Robertson faced with a choice when speaking with a co-worker, but we also see some of the top-down gameplay styles typical of management sim games.

The Steam page explores more of what Dispatch will offer gameplay-wise, stating, "you must manage your roster while navigating office relationships and rebuilding your suit for a shot at revenge." As for just how dark the humor might get, the Steam page also notes that players can expect "Mature Language, Cartoon Violence, Nudity, and Tobacco and Drug Usage. Rated R type stuff!"

It almost goes without mentioning that Dispatch's stellar cast is also a major reason to keep tabs on the game. Aaron Paul, most known for his roles in Breaking Bad and BoJack Horseman, will play the main character, Robert Robertson. As a versatile actor and voice actor, Paul perfectly fills the role of a superhero who is stuck in a dead-end job instead of the role he loves most. There's also a myriad of other famous faces and voices lending their talent to Dispatch, including Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part 2), Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), Jacksepticeye, Alanah Pearce (Cyberpunk 2077), and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld).

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons to get excited for Dispatch is its team of talented developers. As confirmed in the trailer, AdHoc is utilizing the talent behind some of the most influential choice-based games of all time, with former devs from The Walking Dead, Tales From The Borderlands, and The Wolf Among Us all signed up to the project. While this slate of Telltale Games titles have faced some criticism for just how meaningful their choices really are, they all succeed in crafting beautiful and thought-provoking narrative experiences, which definitely lends hope to Dispatch's story and gameplay.

Dispatch's Unique Style - And Comedy - Are Already Making It A 2025 Stand-Out

A Hilarious Comedy That Looks Visually Impressive

The trailer gives just a taste of the comedy and humor we're likely to see in the full release. As we already know, the game isn't going to shy away from darker jokes and NSFW gags, which should help set it apart as a superhero game, as the genre tends to fall into the more family-friendly category. With its office setting and the general feel of day-to-day mundanity the trailer exudes, Dispatch is targeting a more mature audience not just through its jokes, but also through its characters and setting.

Dispatch's art style also helps it to stand out as a unique and very promising title. The bright and colorful cartoon aesthetics are more reminiscent of an anime than a video game, making it look very visually different to any other games set to launch in 2025. Its vibrant, comic style is definitely unique, bringing to focus a very visual and appealing game that truly stands out. With witty writing, a distinctly colorful art style, and an all-around intriguing plot, Dispatch is already standing out of the crowd of new game releases.

Dispatch Has Everything It Needs To Succeed

One Of The Most Exciting Upcoming Games For Your Wishlist

Dispatch is already a perfect storm, from its talented developers to its fantastic cast, humor, and art style. With all of these in its favor, it's hard to imagine Dispatch not becoming one of the best games of the year, but of course, we've yet to see any reactions to how it actually plays hands-on. It'll be interesting to see how the developers blend the player choices with the management and strategy elements of the gameplay. The two genres are pretty different, and it may be a hard balance to get them working harmoniously together.

It also may be a challenge to present a new side of superheroes, where working in an office job is a major plot point. Still, with so many things going for it, Dispatch looks like a must-play for anyone looking for some fun and humor with a story worth telling. Unfortunately, Dispatch doesn't yet have a release date, but it's definitely one worth adding to your wishlist.
