It's no secret that director Craig Gillespie and writer Ana Nogueira's take on Supergirl was a box-office flop. Though we at Polygon quite enjoyed our time with the film, calling it a solid superhero drama, Milly Alcock's big adventure as Kara Zor-El failed to hit the mark with an opening weekend that put it on par with the maligned Joker 2.

However, this isn't the end for fans of Supergirl — not by a long shot. Coming this fall, DC has partnered with Penguin Random House Audio to release a full-cast audiobook production of Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the comic that inspired Gillespie's Supergirl (even if the differences are there for everyone to see). The eight-issue comic book series in audio form will include a talented cast, innovative sound effects, and original music.

Woman of Tomorrow served as inspiration for Gillespie's DC Studios film, which finds Kara Zor-El feeling conflicted after the loss of her planet and her lack of desire to fit in on Earth, unlike her cousin Clark. However, after Ruthye, an alien girl whose family is slain by ruthless pirate Krem of the Yellow Hills, enlists Kara's help, Supergirl is given a chance to make a name for herself.

The leading role of Supergirl will be played by Marcella Lentz-Pope, best known for her role as Corrin in the Fire Emblem series. She has also starred in a DC production before, playing Vera in the 2012 animated movie Superman vs The Elite. She'll be joined by Amelia Tyler of Baldur's Gate 3 fame as Ruthye when she's narrating, Lim Shi-An as a young Ruthye, Jon Bailey as Krem and Krypto, Marc Thompson as Zor-El, Ellen Adair as Alura, and Tan Kheng Hua as Ruthye's mother.

The audiobook is directed and produced by Roshan Singh Sambhi, best known for his work as a co-showrunner of DC Comics' audio drama DC High Volume: Batman.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of the most ornately beautiful pieces of sequential storytelling ever put to page,” Singh Sambhi said in a news release, “and this audio adaptation is our love letter to it. We've faithfully studied every panel to build a theater of the mind, an operatic daydream that sits differently in each listener's imagination, treating a flame-empowered Supergirl fighting a crystalline space dragon with the same care as her teaching a bewildered little girl how to wash her hands.”

Fans can experience the audio adventure when the audiobook of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Random House Audio debuts on September 1.
