The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has revealed another classic villain debut.
The follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie has unveiled a first official look at an iconic 39-year-old villain making their debut in the upcoming sequel. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's story focuses on Mario and Luigi joining forces with Yoshi, Princess Peach, and Toad in their quest to stop Bowser and Bowser Jr. after the latter frees his father from his prison.
Now, Nintendo has released a new poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, revealing the film's first look at Wart, a green toad character who debuted in Super Mario Bros. 2. This is the first appearance of the classic Mario villain in the animated movie series, confirming his appearance and a possibly important role in the movie. Check out the poster below:
Wart first debuted as a villain in a different franchise, first starring in the 1987 Nintendo game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. One year later, he was the main antagonist of Super Mario Bros. 2, where he attempts to conquer the dream land Subcon using a dream machine. Luckily, the efforts of Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach (then known as Princess Toadstool) resulted in his defeat.
Since his debut, Wart has appeared in various Mario video games and other media. This includes a role in Valiant Comics' Super Mario Bros. series, as well as the appearance as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Although his role in the upcoming movie is unclear, it seems he'll be somewhat important to the overall story.
More to come...
