Ahead of the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks hitting the field at the 2026 Super Bowl Feb. 8, Green Day took the stage to celebrate the big game's 60th anniversary with MVPs.
How Much Money Super Bowl Halftime Performers REALLY Get Paid
Green Day hopes you have the time of your life at the 2026 Super Bowl.
After all, the Grammy-winning musicians opened the big game with a rendition of their hit song "Holiday" before the New England Patriots face off with the Seattle Seahawks Feb. 8.
Before singing the 2005 song, past Super Bowl MVPs, including Tom Brady, Jalen Hurts, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning and Jerry, made their way down to the turf to celebrate six decades of the biggest night in football to an instrumental of "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)."
Indeed, the bandmates Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool taking the stage was in honor of the Super Bowl's 60th anniversary at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Following "Holiday," they transitioned to "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" before jumping into "American Idiot."
Ahead of their feature at the Super Bowl—where Bad Bunny is headlining the Halftime Show and Charlie Puth will perform the national anthem—the Northern California-native band couldn't have been more excited to hit the stage so close to their hometown of Rodeo.
"We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!" Billie shared in a January press release. "We are honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"
As the punk rock band nears its 40th own anniversary next year, performing at the most televised event in the U.S. has been a testament to its lasting power.
"Trends come and go," Billie told Variety in May. "For us, we always wanted to write songs that sounded like we recorded them yesterday. The key is always to write good songs. I think we've accomplished that."

Sometimes, that was accomplished by shifting the focus away from the music itself.
"You have to live life to write songs about your life," he added. "I do like to take my time with the lyrics to make sure that they project the way I feel, internalize what's going on in my own life and what's going on in the culture. So that's important. We live in such a crazy world."
