Street Fighter is being knocked out of the competition at the box office.

2026's Street Fighter, which is the third live-action movie adapting the iconic fighting game franchise of the same name, stars Andrew Koji as Ryu opposite Noah Centineo as Ken Masters and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. It debuted on October 16, earning a 3-day domestic opening weekend gross of $30.8 million that was more than the domestic debuts of both previous movies put together (even adjusted for inflation). However, the next weekend, its sophomore drop of 72.1% marked Paramount's sixth-biggest drop in history for a non-concert movie (concert movies are superfan-forward and tend to be entirely frontloaded).

Per Deadline, Street Fighter is playing in 2,825 domestic theaters this weekend, in which early projections are showing it set to earn roughly $3.3 million, dropping an additional 61% from its disappointing sophomore weekend. This sees it being removed from 750 domestic theaters during its third weekend, as it played in 3,575 during its first and second weekends.

Dropping this many theaters isn't entirely common for a tentpole movie in its third weekend, as 1,000 movies in history have been removed from 715 theaters or more during their third weekends, with the 100 biggest drops being much higher, ranging between 2025's Caught Stealing (-1,903) and 2020's The Rhythm Section (-2,995). The new Street Fighter movie's third weekend is set to give it the 947th biggest week 3 theater drop of all time, between 2007's Blood and Chocolate (-749) and the 2024 theatrical television presentation The Chosen: S4 Episodes 7-8 (-752).

However, the fact that it is being removed from this many theaters is nevertheless somewhat surprising, given the fact that Halloween weekend notably lacks major new releases. The biggest new wide release, the horror-comedy Christmas at the Kringles, is only playing in 1,825 theaters, which is a very small number compared to other 2026 wide release debuts, including Street Fighter itself. Below, see a breakdown of the theater counts of the Top 10 new releases of October 2026 so far:

However, Street Fighter is not performing at the level of the DC Studios body horror movie Clayface (which debuted the weekend after Street Fighter) or the buzzy Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything (which debuted the same weekend as Street Fighter but expanded during its sophomore frame, giving A24 its first week-on-week rise in history from a movie that opened wide in more than 600 theaters).

The offbeat fantasy romantic comedy Wicker is also gaining better traction. After earning the biggest domestic debut in history for its distributor, Black Bear, it was added to more than 800 theaters over Halloween weekend, including an expanded 4DX release.

ChronoLogic

Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.

This theater drop could also be accounted for by the fact that Street Fighter reviews have not been propping the movie up, earning it an underwhelming 41% on Rotten Tomatoes. It ultimately remains to be seen how much the movie earns by the end of its run, but this series of drops indicates that it may not have the momentum to earn the sequel promised by its closing moments.
