Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.

Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

One of the great things about Steam is that there are always new free games to play. With recent hardware price hikes, gaming has become more expensive than ever before. However, if you know where to look, and you're willing to give a chance to some indie games, you'd be amazed how much gaming you can get done without ever spending a penny.

While the latest free game available on Steam isn't exactly as high profile as 007 First Light or Marvel's Wolverine, it has been getting rave reviews from gamers who have taken the time to check it out, meaning it's definitely worth your time too. So, if you're headed into the weekend wondering what to play, you might want to consider seeing what this latest Steam freebie is all about.

A Free Steam Game So Good People Can't Believe It Costs Nothing

No Results Found

Released just a few days ago, No Results Found is a detective sim in the vein of The Roottrees Are Dead, or Her Story. You take on the role of a religious studies researcher at a government agency who has been tasked with looking into the not-at-all suspiciously named Church of the Nine-Tentacled Octopus after all 227 of its members drowned during a ritual. As you would imagine, things get pretty creepy pretty quickly.

"Explore a website filled with octopus masks, bizarre commandments, and ridiculous events—and uncover a members-only community hidden within it," teases the game's synopsis. "Even throwaway jokes and petty complaints may contain clues. Piece together scattered posts and records to identify the key figures at the heart of the case."

At the time of writing, No Results Found has 98% positive reviews on Steam, giving it an overall score of "Overwhelmingly Positive." A quick look through the user reviews shows some truly glowing praise for the game, with pretty much everyone expressing disbelief that this is a free game.

"For this to be free is insane," reads one review. "This could easily be something I'd spend money on. I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting to play something similar to Hypnospace Outlaw or Simulacra. The puzzles are pretty tricky at first until you get the hang of what you're doing. It's a really neat little detective game, with an ending that really made me think."

Another adds: "What impressed me the most was the overall quality. The atmosphere, presentation, and way information is revealed are all incredibly well done. Every clue leads to new questions, and every answer pushes you deeper into the mystery. I found myself completely immersed for hours without even noticing the time pass."

If you enjoy a good detective game, I'd urge you to check this one out as soon as you're able. Having played a bit of it myself just last night, I can confidently say this is one of the best free games ever to have been released on Steam by some distance. Don't miss out.
