Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.

Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

If there are any Steam gamers out there (I believe there are at least one or two of you), I thought I'd draw your attention to a new limited-time freebie you have just 24 hours to claim. I know that if you're anything like me, your backlog is probably begging for mercy, but this is one game you'll want to add to your library while you can.

Moonrise Fall

Developed by Made With Strings and released back in 2019, Moonrise Fall is an "atmospheric exploration puzzle game about a boy who finds himself lost in a supernatural forest after losing both parents in a car crash." You're asked to put your detective skills to the test and explore a strange world brought to life by some really striking pixel art.

"Moonrise Fall is an atmospheric exploration puzzle game about a boy who finds himself lost in a supernatural forest after losing both parents in a car crash," reads the game's description. "Put your detective skills to the test. Armed with a clue-filled journal, a camera, and a lantern, he must unravel the mysteries of the forest and photograph the strange creatures that reside there. Moonrise Fall is a brain-teaser-filled world mixed with classic adventuring, exploration, and collecting. A surreal, understated experience about loss and finding new life inspired by real-life experiences. Uncover locations like caves, mines, a lumber mill, and otherworldly locales at your own pace. Discover why the boy has been trapped in this strange place and by whom."

Obviously, Moonrise Fall didn't set the world on fire when it launched in 2019. All the more reason for you to take a look at it now. It doesn't have a ton of reviews, but most seem to agree it's a charming adventure with a unique vibe all of its own. The game will remain completely free to download and keep in your library forever until June 2 at 6pm, so you'll want to move quickly.

If this one is a little too light on combat or puzzles for you, there are loads of free games on Steam. Just recently I highlighted six of the latest free games that were added to the digital storefront. Unlike Moonrise Kingdom, these six are permanantly free, so you can take your sweet time choosing which, if any of them, you might like to take a look at.
