If you like adventure games, you probably have a Steam account. The platform has adventurous titles of just about every type, dating back to the classic '90s era, as well as contemporaries that either mine nostalgia or do something unique. Either way, there are plenty of choices, and that's not stopping anytime soon.

Now on Steam, you can pick up a modern classic adventure game, which still has rave user reviews and has withstood the test of time. Just know you have only 24 hours to grab it before the offer ends, and it reverts to its original price. There are no strings attached, and all it takes is a quick click.

Deponia Sunset Ruins

Live now as part of Daedalic Entertainment's "Daedalic Days" event (running from August 13-27), you can pick up the 2012 adventure game Deponia for free. As part of a series of games, the first one deals with an irreverent hero saving the day in an equally out-there world, evoking shades of Monkey Island.

If you've never played Deponia before, the premise is delightfully absurd: "In Deponia, the world has degenerated into a vast garbage dump, in which the crotchety Rufus ekes out his sorry existence. He is part of the lowest social class, doomed to live his life in literal mountains of trash. He hopes for an opportunity to get into the world of the rich, who live in a floating city high above the clouds."

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Futurama, and Discworld are all cited as direct inspiration, married with hand-drawn 2D visuals. Since release, it's been a lot of adventure game fans' cup of tea.

Deponia Cliffside

At the moment, Deponia is completely free on Steam. There's no purchase requirement or time limit, as it'll be available on your account for good after you redeem it. You can, however, pick up the Deponia Collection for $29.99, which includes the first game (Deponia), Chaos on Deponia, and Goodbye Deponia. Deponia Doomsday, the sequel, is sold separately.

This is the perfect game to get for free, because as one Steam fan puts it, it can be difficult, especially if you aren't versed in the genre: "The comic-style art looks good, and the story is actually quite good. It was the main reason I kept playing. However, the game is genuinely difficult. It gives almost no clues or instructions, so you're expected to figure everything out yourself. Some puzzles can be unnecessarily frustrating."

No matter what decision you make, Steam is still one of the biggest homes of adventure games to this day. Plenty of choices are out there, even if you don't gel with Deponia.
