You can play a gorgeous new RPG on Steam for free right now, and fans of action-based games with a retro feeling won’t want to miss out on it. There are tons of free trials for games on the platform, from the large and now expanded FFXIV Free Trial to several demos. For example, you can pick up and try a demo for a narrative game on Steam right now, ahead of its release in 2027. Screen Rant discovered this hidden gem during Gamescom LATAM 2026.
During the event, Screen Rant also found a beautiful action RPG in the Abragames booth. This game has not yet been released, but players can play it for free on Steam via an ongoing playtest. There are no catches to playing it apart from accessing the product page on the storefront and requesting access to the playtest from the developers. If given access, you can download and play a portion of the game.
The game in question is called Eden’s Frontier. Developed and published by Frontiers Group Entertainment and backed by Abragames, the action-adventure RPG on Steam is inspired by titles in the genre from the 1990s and 2000s. Eden’s Frontier mixes HD anime-style pixel art with fully 3D environments for a game with unique yet outstanding visuals. In the free playtest for the game, you’ll control Blu, one of the three protagonists.
Eden’s Frontier is inspired by the comics of the same name, but presents a 100% original narrative set in the same universe. Blu will take on adventures alongside Seth and Maria, too, exploring different worlds and kingdoms, as well as discovering new races. The game features a day-and-night cycle, which will impact the adventure. Eden’s Frontier doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it can already be wishlisted on Steam.
The Eden’s Frontier playtest is one of the many free experiences you can find on Steam. If you’re looking for other action RPGs, you can play Zenless Zone Zero for free, for example. Another option is checking out an 800-hour RPG for free on Steam. A 9/10 game called Ecto is also being offered entirely for free for players to check out.
There are plenty of options that populate the platform’s storefront, but it’s a matter of checking out what best serves you. Eden’s Frontier looks like a promising new action RPG, and a gorgeous one at that, so if you’re interested, be sure to get access to its free playtest on Steam right now.
Screen Rant’s attendance at Gamescom LATAM was sponsored by Abragames.
