James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
Steam needs no introduction to anyone at this point, with the storefront cornering the PC gaming market for most, and providing a genuinely compelling place to gather and play, either solo or with others online.
One of the things that most of us look forward to throughout the year is the regular events that the company puts on to offer up discounted games and unique items for players to customize their profiles. These range from sales tied to an individual publisher or developer, to events around a theme, and it's the latter that brings us here today.
Steam Gamers Have 48 Hours Left For These Freebies
Over on Steam, you'll see that the House and Home Fest is currently underway, an event focused on everything to do with building and maintaining a domicile in video game form. That means there's everything from simulators, to decoration games, to point-and-click collectathons.
As part of that, the store has uploaded a ton of free demos for players to enjoy, with almost every game included in the event giving players the chance to try before they buy. Which of those will be most appealing will likely depend on what genre you're into, but there are still some standout picks you should be aware of.
PowerWash Simulator 1 and 2 are both available with demos, and speaking from personal experience, both games are a great way of turning your brain off at the end of a long day. At the same time, Squeakross: Home Squeak Home is a game that allows players to decorate a home for their little Rodent friend, via puzzles, and it currently sits on Overwhelmingly Positive reviews from more than 1,500 pieces of feedback.
Other highlights include The Dream Globe, The Berlin Apartment, House Builder, and A Webbing Journey, but there are more than 70 demos in total, so get out there and have a look to get a better idea of everything that's available.
Steam Also Has Some Hefty Discounts For The Next 48 Hours
All of the games involved in the event are also subject to significant discounts if you do like what you see and want to commit to the full purchase. Builder Simulator is a massive 80% off, whilst everything else is available at a reduction of anything between 20%-60%.
As mentioned earlier, you don't have too long to take advantage of these discounts, with Steam set to take the event away forever on April 6, so make sure to get involved before then.
