If you're looking to try out SteamOS, there are two systems with the Linux-based operating system that are on sale for Black Friday.
Over on Steam, the entry-level Steam Deck is on sale for $319.20 through December 1 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET.
If that price sounds familiar, it's the same discount that Valve offered during its Steam Autumn sale. The Steam Deck OLED, however, is still full price.
Despite being almost four years old, the Steam Deck still plays most games on Steam. The Steam Deck OLED has a nicer screen, but the regular Steam Deck offers the same performance.
Gaming handhelds have proven to be getting more expensive, with systems like the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go 2 each surpassing the $1,000 mark. While these SteamOS platforms might not have the latest specs, they're certainly on the more affordable end of the spectrum.
There's no sign of a Steam Deck 2 coming along anytime soon, and there haven't been any further announcements of SteamOS handhelds made by other manufacturers. (Indeed, the Lenovo Legion Go S on sale at Best Buy is the only one so far.) So these deals may be rare opportunities to jump into SteamOS, unless you want to try to install it on other handhelds using the Steam Deck recovery image and just see what happens.
