It's no secret that Steam has one of the most successful promotional models of any gaming storefront, offering PC gamers various options to claim and try games entirely for free. Whether it's one of the hundreds of games in the free-to-play library, free limited-time trials, weekly or monthly freebies, etc., there's no shortage of great content to check out on the platform.

Steam users can officially claim the underrated open-world racing-shooter LivingBattle, a hilarious and unique action game that incorporates dark humor and rustic charm, and it's available to claim for 24 hours until Tuesday, May 12 at 1:00pm EST. Developed by solo indie dev LivingEveryday, gamers take on enemies by riding around in various vehicles to run them over or shoot them down, and the game is about as simple as that.

LivingBattle was first released in September 2025, and has seen various promotions over the last year, but PC gamers on Steam can officially try it out for free now to see what it's all about. However, fans will want to temper their expectations a bit, as there may be a reason this game is available for free.

While LivingBattle has hundreds of user reviews on Steam and just about all of them are negative, the comment section is absolutely hilarious and probably more entertaining than the game itself if we're being honest here. Positive reviews on the game sarcastically hail the game as a GTA 6 contender, claiming it saved their marriage, made them rich and won the lottery just from playing it, and even say it was "love at first sight" playing the game for the first time (shloopki). Other gamers like lettuce G gave it positive reviews despite saying it's "hard to make a game this bad."

On the other end of the spectrum, negative reviews are absolutely scathing, with Flaminguh saying, "buy the game if you want, hell even install it, but the worst mistake you will ever make in your life is to play it." Others point out developer LivingEveryday's blatant cash-grab model on Steam, where they roll out free-to-download offers and then try to get gamers to download the DLC bundles at outrageous markups. As Axel points out, "devs give away the base game just to pull players in and cash out with dlc... they dont even try to hide they just wanna make quick money."

While LivingBattle doesn't come highly recommended among players who already bit the bullet, if you came for the free open-world game, you'll want to stick around for the hundreds of brutal Steam reviews alone.
