Cozy games like Stardew Valley are a dime a dozen, with an abundance of imitators popping up practically every day. Of course, many of these turn out to be rather excellent, and there is nothing wrong with having a plethora of cozy experiences to help us get through a tough week. However, it is absolutely getting to the point where these games need to do something a little different, either by switching up the core gameplay, or even changing genres entirely.

Fortunately, the latest game like Stardew Valley aims to do just that. It still offers the cozy farming sim gameplay we've all become extremely accustomed to, but with a twist of horror sprinkled in for good measure. This may very well end up being one of the most unique titles to ape Stardew Valley (and Harvest Moon by extension), especially for fans of horror serial killer classics like Scream.

Stardew Valley With A Serial Killer Twist? Okay Then

As we all await the next massive Stardew Valley update, it makes sense to turn to some of its contemporaries, if only to see what a slightly different take on the cozy farming sim genre can look like. With the spooky season approaching (kind of), and horror movies doing better than ever, it feels right to try out a cozy farming game with a bloody serial killer twist that comes from one of the major producers behind some of 2026's greatest horror flicks.

Even if you're not massively into horror, Grave Seasons from developer Perfect Garbage and publisher Blumhouse Games could end up being your favorite cozy game of the year. It aims to blend the social life sim and farming sim elements of Stardew Valley with a murder mystery/horror narrative set up that quite literally could see you date the town's serial killer. Any of the game's residents could end up being the supernatural killer hellbent on murdering all of Ashenridge, the game's setting, and each playthrough will select a different killer for you to suss out.

So, it's ostensibly Stardew Valley meets Scream meets Danganronpa, a combination that has the potential to be something truly special. For a sophomore title, Grave Seasons looks incredibly ambitious and unique. The developer's previous game, Love Shore, focuses more on the mystery and investigation side of things; so, one can hope it has those elements locked in and simply needs to focus on ensuring the cozy side of Grave Seasons all clicks into place.

Grave Seasons Is Definitely One To Watch

Grave Seasons is set to release sometime in Fall 2026. The developers had previously aimed to get the game out on August 14, 2026, with a demo scheduled to release on June 15, but the demo was canceled, and the release date pushed back in an effort to get the game ready on all platforms. That isn't particularly uncommon or surprising for an indie title, even one with backing from a prolific horror production house like Blumhouse.

Grave Seasons is set to release on PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X/S.

While it obviously remains to be seen, there is every chance that Grave Seasons could end up being one of the best horror games of the year, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of Resident Evil Requiem. With its compelling murder mystery plotline that changes with every playthrough, stunning visuals, and healthy dose of life sim gameplay chucked on top for good measure, Grave Seasons may just push the Stardew Valley-like in a whole new direction and open the floodgates for other, novel interpretations of the core cozy game formula.
