Stardew Valley's 1.6 Update is finally here for everyone on console and mobile and one player wants to share a helpful tip that was quietly added in the latest major patch. When it comes to storage, Farmers are known to collect a mountain of items that they need to upgrade their equipment and it's all usually stored in chests placed around their home. In previous versions of Stardew Valley, it was painfully tedious to move the crates around since everything needed to first be removed, but with the 1.6 Update that's now a thing of the past.
Posting to Reddit, user thevickit shared a helpful post explaining that moving a chest no longer requires farmers to take out the contents: Simply hitting a full box with a tool will shift it over one space in the direction it's aimed.
It seems like a minor upgrade but given how long many players spent optimizing the layout of their farm, it can save fans plenty of time. User whimsea went one step further by noting that placing a Large Chest over a Normal Chest now automatically transfers the contents, which is extremely helpful.
Stardew Valley 1.6 Changes The Game
Making Farmers' Lives Easier Since 2024
ConcernedApe has done an incredible job of breaking down everything players need to know about the 1.6 Update but some fun secrets weren't included in the original patch notes. One of the most useful secret additions is the ability to increase a horse's speed by giving the animal a carrot. On a similar note, the efficiency of the Small Junimo Hut can be improved by feeding the critters Raisins, boosting the yield of the crops they harvest.
Those are two major mechanical upgrades quietly excluded from the patch notes but 1.6 also contains some flavorful additions. The patch adds two more Secret Notes to the game with one leading players to uncover a compendium of their Grandpa's greatest discoveries. Perhaps the most beneficial secret inclusion is the Statue Of Blessings which provides Farmers with a random buff every day; None of the options are particularly bad but they can help shape the direction of one's activities.

Nothing Can Escape Them
I love seeing the Stardew Valley community uncovering and sharing random tidbits they find in the game. While some of the discoveries are generally known by most players, there's never anyone criticizing those who may have missed them. I've said it once and I'll say it again: There are plenty of video game communities that could learn a thing or two from the Stardew Valley player base.
