The Star Wars Jedi games really have been a shining light in recent history for the franchise. The story of Cal Kestis comes at that crucial time in the lore between the prequel and original trilogies, offering a new perspective on those dark days for the Jedi after Order 66 and the few who remained to fight for the Light side of the Force.
At a time where many of the movie and TV adaptations have failed to hit the mark for fans, games have been genuinely quite consistent, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor are probably the best examples of those. Now, we've had further confirmation that the series' protagonist is set to remain a firm fixture in Disney's plans for some time to come yet.
As first reported in an exclusive by Game Rant, a Disney representative shared strong confirmation that Cal Kestis is a key part of their plans, saying, "Never say never. We've got his lightsaber in the park. We've got more Cal stories coming."
Now, we have known for some time that a third and final game in the series is under development at Respawn Entertainment, but this latest quote makes it sound like the company's plans for the character go quite far beyone just his appearance as a protagonist in the next game.
His only appearances outside of the two main games thus far were in a literary project written by Sam Maggs, as well as a small showing in the animated streaming project LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, where actor Cameron Monaghan retained his role for a version of the hero who has been trapped in a multiverse prison.
Another very cool recent release that furthered the character's lore significantly was supplementary text Star Wars: Secrets of the Jedi: The Chronicles of Luke Skywalker. This was an update to the 2019 release of Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi by Marc Sumerak, and in it, he explicitly confirms that Skywalker was very much aware of Kestis and his work to disrupt the Empire.
This likely means that he lived into the New Republic era, opening up the door to a ton of potential appearances and collaborations with other exciting characters.
We haven't had a reveal of the third (and final) game in the series just yet, but that should hopefully come later this year, or early in 2027. Where exactly that will take us remains unclear, but the two games we have enjoyed in the Jedi: Survivor so far are more than deserving of a cogent final chapter.
