Warning: SPOILERS for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising #2

Star Wars' new series set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi has created a brand-new team of Rebel heroes. With the Empire having suffered its greatest defeat with the second Death Star's destruction and the deaths of both The Emperor and Darth Vader, the Imperial leaders who remain are largely divided between fulfilling Palpatine's last wishes and desperately holding onto their own power within the fractured Empire. However, one Imperial in particular demands some special attention from the Rebellion-turned-New Republic.

In Insurgency Rising #2 from Alex Segura, Leonard Kirk, and Rachelle Rosenberg, Mon Mothma and Leia Organa speak with intelligence officer Agent Behrens about the ongoing threat in the Anoat Sector, a region of space that's home to planets such as Bespin, Hoth, and more worlds. Ruled by Moff Adelhard, the Imperial governor has chosen to live in denial that the Empire has been shattered. With that in mind, Leia proposes that a small and elite team of Rebels be formed to assess the situation:

Picking a handful of names both new and old, it's going to be very exciting to see what Leia's most trusted and reliable agents will be able to accomplish as a brand-new squad of Rebels in the Star Wars canon.

The Anoat sector is a very large section of the Star Wars galaxy, one that's certainly worth the attention of the nascent New Republic considering it's still being oppressed by Imperial rule. That said, the galaxy is still rocking from the major aftershocks that came in the wake of the Battle of Endor such as Operation Cinder, the Emperor's posthumous bombardment orders to punish the galaxy for his death. To that end, an initial squad of trusted Rebels makes sense to scope out the situation with Adelhard.

Star Wars Explains How the Empire Broke into 3 Key Factions After Return of the Jedi

In the immediate aftermath of Return of the Jedi, it's been revealed that the Empire split into three key factions following the Battle of Endor.

On the whole, Leia's new team is quite impressive. First up is Kes Dameron, father of future Resistance hero Poe Dameron and one of the Rebellion's elite Pathfinders. Kes worked closely with Leia post-Battle of Hoth during the Galactic Civil War, as did his wife Shara Bey (Poe's mother).

Kes is also joined by Rynn Zenat who has previously been inside Adelhard's "Iron Blockade". As such, she should be able to provide some invaluable intel in future issues. Third is mechanic and jack-of-all-trades Jarek Yaeger whom Star Wars fans should recognize from the animated series Star Wars Resistance. Last but not least is newcomer and intelligence operative Therisa Alern whom Leia holds in regard as someone willing to get her hands dirty.

While en route to the Anoat sector, the issue ends with this new team of Rebel agents finding themselves surrounded by none other than Zeva Bliss and the Spice Runners of Kijimi who've agreed to aid Adelhard and his Iron Blockade. As such, this imminent conflict should prove to be quite fascinating, especially considering Kes' son Poe eventually becomes a Spice Runner himself alongside Zeva's daughter Zorrii. Regardless, it's clear that Leia's handpicked team of Rebels are in for quite the gauntlet as this new Star Wars series continues.

The daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, Leia inherited her mother's political skills and her father's Force power. She was raised on Alderaan as a member of the royal family, and followed in her father's footsteps by becoming a senator who secretly worked alongside the Rebel Alliance. Alderaan's destruction changed everything, and Leia became a leader in both the Rebel Alliance and its successor government, the New Republic. She served there for decades, eventually leaving to found the First Order when she sensed its darkness growing. Leia gave much for her ideals, but eventually gave her life to redeem her son Ben.
