Star Trek: Strange New Worlds officially revealed season 4's episode titles, and they're packed with hidden meanings.

Season 4 will be the final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to consist of a full 10 episodes. Expected in 2027, the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will only be six episodes, bringing the series' episode total to 46. Promising more outer space adventure and character development, as well as some "big swings," Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 is hotly anticipated.

Cowboy Captain Pike on horseback

Star Trek's official social media accounts dropped the titles of all 10 episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, pairing each with a member of Captain Christopher Pike's USS Enterprise crew. Check out the gallery on the official Star Trek Instagram, and our analysis of what they could mean, below:

  • Episode 1: “Valles Marineris” - Paired with an image of Captain Pike, "Valles Marineris" is a huge canyon on Mars. We know the most about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season premiere, as images have already been shown of Captain Pike riding a horse on what looks like the Martian landscape. SFX Magazine also revealed that Saffron Burrows guest stars as a character named Cassel.
  • Episode 2: “The Griffin Incident” - The title "The Griffin Incident" harkens back to the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Enterprise Incident," when Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) stole a cloaking device from the Romulans. Since Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck) is the paired image, perhaps he and Lt. Commander James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) will try a similar gambit, maybe on a starship called the USS Griffin.
  • Episode 3: “Human Best Friend” - This odd title could refer to the infamous puppet episode in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4. The image paired is of Lt. Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia), so perhaps when Captain Pike is turned into a puppet, it's up to Ortegas, who is a close friend of Pike, to be the human who helps him return to normal. Or is Erica Pike's puppeteer?
  • Episode 4: “A Case of Chiaoscuro” - "Chiaoscuro" means a contrast between light and shadow. This could mean that episode 4 is the film noir episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that Anson Mount hinted at. Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) is the paired image, so this could be a Number One-centric episode.
  • Episode 5: “Level-Five Transporter Accident” - Transporter accidents have caused countless incidents of chaos throughout Star Trek. With Scotty (Martin Quinn) as the paired image, perhaps the young engineer has to solve a transporter crisis. This might also involve the new Vulcan ensign introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4.
  • Episode 6: “Off-Hour” - Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) is paired with "Off-Hour," which could hint at an episode centering on what Chapel and her crewmates do when off-duty. This could be a character-driven episode, and might follow up Chapel's season 3 love story with Dr. Roger Korby (Cillian O'Sullivan).
  • Episode 7: “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass” - An obvious spin on the famous tagline, "Like sand through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives," episode 7 could be centered on Dr. Joseph M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun). M'Benga has many secrets, and maybe this episode pays off what we already know about Joseph, or reveals even more.
  • Episode 8: “Orders of Magnitude” - Since Lt. Commander James T. Kirk is the paired image, this seems like a no-brainer. This could be an episode continuing James' evolution to becoming the next Captain of the Enterprise. SFX Magazine also revealed that Kirk's 2-year-old son, David Marcus, will appear in season 4, so perhaps this will be his debut.
  • Episode 9: “Once La’an a Time” - The most obvious title. This has to be about Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong). La'an has some lingering story threads, from changing her "paradigm" and opening up as a person to her romance with Spock. Season 4 could also introduce new wrinkles to La'an, setting up her final arc in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' fifth and final season.
  • Episode 10: “Tomorrow’s Enterprise”- An ode to the all-time classic Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise," Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4's finale could be a similar alternate reality episode, or maybe the USS Enterprise crew sees their future. It may also center on Ensign Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' season finales are typically game-changers, and this should be no different.
Kirk Spock hug close

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 will be the centerpiece of Star Trek's 60th anniversary celebration at San Diego Comic-Con, two days after season 4 premieres. The cast and executive producers and co-showrunners, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers, will be at Hall H, and join other Star Trek luminaries to mark 60 years of Gene Roddenberry's final frontier.

Hopes are high for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, which plans to shake off the malaise that met season 3 by returning to classic Star Trek episodic adventures. How Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will bridge towards the fifth and final season, and the inevitable conclusion where Captain Kirk takes command of the USS Enterprise from Captain Pike, remains to be seen.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 premieres Thursday, July 23, on Paramount+.
