Star Trek: Prodigy Art Book Cancellation Revealed By Aaron J. Waltke

Star Trek: Prodigy is the most mistreated Star Trek series in franchise history, and a new tragedy of its cancellation has been revealed. Star Trek: Prodigy ran for two seasons, totaling 40 half-hour episodes. Originally streaming on Paramount+, Star Trek: Prodigy was available on Netflix until December 31, 2025.

A casualty of Paramount Global's merger with Skydance Media, Star Trek: Prodigy was abruptly purged from Paramount+ during production of season 2 in 2023. A dedicated fan campaign saved Star Trek: Prodigy, with Netflix picking up season 1 and the completed season 2. However, Netflix allowed Star Trek: Prodigy's license to expire, and the series is now gone from the streamer.

Responding to Starfleet Design on BlueSky, Star Trek: Prodigy co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke revealed that "There was a Star Trek: Prodigy Art Book in the works. I was going to co-write it." Waltke explains the reasons why the Star Trek: Prodigy art book didn't happen, but he urges fans to "rally for it!" Check out Aaron's post below:

Starfleet Design's BlueSky post, shared by Aaron J. Waltke, included four gorgeous pieces of Star Trek: Prodigy concept art by Alessandro Taini, Morgan Yon, and Dominique Rossier. The images include early Gwyndala (Ella Purnell) concept art, designs for the USS Protostar and the USS Voyager-A, and transporter effects featuring Dal R'El (Brett Gray).

Star Trek fans likely weren't aware that there was a Star Trek: Prodigy Art Book in the works until Aaron J. Waltke's call to action. Star Trek: Prodigy supporters are among the most loyal in the fandom, and their voices rising up on social media could potentially make this art book a reality, just as they delivered Star Trek: Prodigy to Netflix in 2023.

Aaron J. Waltke's reveal of a canceled Star Trek: Prodigy art book comes on the heels of The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks, which is happening and will be released in May 2026. Star Trek: Prodigy is beloved, in part, for its stunning and vivid animation, and a book filled with concept art would be a treasured companion to the animated series.

Star Trek: Prodigy seasons 1 and 2 are currently in limbo with no streaming home, although they can be purchased on streaming. However, the wiser play is purchasing Star Trek: Prodigy on physical media. Perhaps Star Trek fans can work their magic for the young crew of the USS Protostar one more time and use their voices to make Star Trek: Prodigy's Art Book a reality.
