In the recent trailer for Squid Game season 2, Gi-hun returns to the murderous Squid Games and must play one of the show's most dangerous and horrifying children's games, but this time with a cruel twist. Audiences have long awaited the second installment in the South Korean thriller series, Squid Game. After its initial release in 2021, audiences quickly became fascinated by the bloody and intense show, so much so that it became one of Netflix's most-watched series ever. Now, viewers will see Gi-hun take on the games a second time but with a new understanding of the consequences.

In general, the Squid Game season 2 trailer offers quite a bit of information to chew on about the newest season. It seems as though Gi-hun, for one reason or another, is returning to play the Squid Games a second time, though with a much different goal. Rather than trying to win the money, Gi-hun attempts to save people's lives and get the contestants away from the deadly game. Unfortunately, it seems that no one is interested in listening, and this leaves Gi-hun (and the audience) to witness even more disturbing deaths as history repeats itself.

Gi-hun Is Guiding The Players In Red Light, Green Light (But It Ends In Disaster Anyway)

What Gi-hun's Failed Attempts Will Mean In Squid Game Season 2

One of the most notable children's games that appeared in Squid Game season 1 was a lethal version of Red Light, Green Light, and it looks like this game is making a comeback. In the Squid Game season 2 trailer, audiences see a new set of players start a game of Red Light, Green Light, but this time, Gi-hun is determined to help them. Gi-hun tries to lead the pack by telling them when to run and when to be still. Unfortunately, his attempts at saving their lives aren't completely successful as panic takes over the group.

The fact that Gi-hun's efforts fail is very telling about what Squid Game season 2 will be like. It seems likely that Gi-hun only reentered the Squid Games in order to take them down, yet his plans don't seem to be playing out as smoothly as he hoped. Not only does he struggle to control a massive group of people, but he also puts a target on his back by trying to help them. Most likely, Gi-hun will feel quite a bit of despair during season 2 as he relives his worst nightmare for a second time.

Gi-hun Failing To Help The Other Players Makes Red Light, Green Light Even More Twisted

How Else Squid Game Season 2 Will Raise The Stakes

This new twist in Squid Game season 2 won't just hurt Gi-hun either. In the trailer alone, it is difficult to see these new, innocent players stepping right into the line of danger without them even realizing it. After watching Squid Game season 1, viewers are just like Gi-hun, anticipating the worst. In this way, it is exciting to see Gi-hun take control and try to save lives. However, it only makes it that much worse when he fails and these new characters are unceremoniously killed. Audiences have to contend with the dread of knowing these characters' tragic fates.

This will be hard to watch since viewers know Gi-hun is only trying to help. There is also the fact that the game runners may also target Gi-hun once they realize his intentions. Ultimately, Squid Game season 2 will be more intense and more frustrating because of the audiences' prior knowledge.

This will almost definitely get viewers back into the groove of watching this violent series. However, there is a chance other games will return as well, especially since Gi-hun yells out in the trailer, "I've played these games before." His use of the plural implies that perhaps other games will make a return. In fact, the entire Squid Game may just repeat exactly what it was in season 1.

Part of Squid Games' fun is the fact that audiences can be shocked by how twisted and disturbing the games are.

Four hundred fifty-six participants from all walks of life are locked into a secret location where they play games to win 45.6 billion won.
