Spy x Family Won't Admit It, But the Biggest Threat To Anya Is Actually Loid

The recently released Spy x Family chapter #111 might not have been the longest entry in the series, but it is by far one of the most insightful. The first appearance of Anya’s mother, a better understanding of the girl’s past, and a wholesome ending have made this entry one of the most popular among fans in quite a while. Yet, there is a detail included by Tatsuya Endo, the creator, that hints at the dark future of the series.

Even though he has claimed in the past that mind reading is an absurd concept, Loid did show signs of paranoia about this ability being a reality in chapter #111. If his anxiety about having a telepath near him continues, Anya could be in grave danger, as her secret is closer than ever to be revealed.

Loid’s Paranoia Puts Anya in Danger

Her Secret Could Be Discovered Soon

In chapter #110 of the Spy x Family manga, Melinda Desmond, wife of the series’s main antagonist, confirmed a major theory about her husband: the fact that he can read minds. After hearing this, Loid immediately dismissed it, believing it to be the woman’s way to deal with the trauma Donovan has inflicted on her. The spy even commented on how ridiculous the idea of someone reading minds would be, as such a power would help anyone achieve any goal they wanted.

Nonetheless, in chapter #111, Loid was seen doubting Yor for a moment after Anya claimed that she could read her mind. The assassin helped calm his nerves by explaining that she knew what their daughter wanted for dinner because the girl had already told her. Even then, the manga makes it clear that Agent Twilight is beginning to think that the existence of a telepath could be more than just Melinda’s outlandish theories. Loid has begun to look for signs that could reveal a mind reader around him.

If he continues down this path, Anya is in grave danger of being discovered, as her father is not one to ignore red flags. If he notices any odd behavior from his daughter, Loid would be capable of anything to determine whether she is a mind reader. As the series progresses, Anya has been very careful not to reveal her powers to her father, but most of her success can be attributed to Loid having no reason to question whether she is a telepath.

Anya Must Not Commit Any Mistakes

Loid Will Be More Observant Than Ever

During her time as a member of the Forger Family, Anya has used her powers on several occasions to prevent tragedies or save her family. Even though she has tried to be careful not to give her special abilities while doing so, she is still a young girl, meaning she is prone to make mistakes. She has been close to revealing her mind-reading powers on more than one occasion, mainly because she does not consider the consequences of her actions. For example, in chapter #96, she unexpectedly confesses her secret to Damian, the youngest member of the tragic Desmond Family.

Under normal circumstances, even if Loid had heard Anya's confession, he could have passed it off as a joke to make her friend laugh. That will no longer be the case, as Agent Twilight will take any indication of that ability as an admission to possess the power. Anya will be forced to carefully select her words and reactions when using her powers, seeing that the most innocuous of slips could trigger Loid’s paranoia. If the spy feels like Anya could be working for his enemy by infiltrating his mind, the pink-haired girl could be in a world of trouble.

Anya Could Be Forcefully Recruited by W.I.S.E.

Her Powers Would Make Her an Invaluable Asset

Although it is unlikely that even if Loid finds out Anya's secret she will be harmed in any way, she could be taken as a tool for W.I.S.E. to use. As Loid himself said during chapter #110, a person with the ability to read minds could destroy any intelligence agency in the world, so the contrary must also be true. Having a telepath that could figure out the plans and thoughts of any target would be an invaluable advantage for the spies to have on their side.

While marginally better than being recaptured by Project Apple, the most recurring and intriguing mystery in the franchise, this would also be psychological torture for the girl. Anya would lose the family and childhood she longed to have, all to become a weapon for another agency that would not see her as completely human. This would be one of the worst fates for the protagonist, and one that would likely cause chaos among the fandom.

Would Loid Decide to Protect His Daughter?

Fans of the Spy x Family manga series have noticed that, as time goes on, Loid Forger has become more and more attached to his daughter and wife. No matter how much he tries to deny his growing feelings of love and affection for his family, his actions indicate that he is happier than ever. Episode #111 has an excellent example of this change in behavior, as the spy can be seen smiling fondly at his family after seeing Anya and Yor share a wholesome moment.

If he ever finds out that his daughter has the power to read minds, there is a high probability that he will not try to immediately capture her for questioning. By this point in the series, losing Anya would be a devastating event for Loid, making it hard to imagine that he would be the cause of such tragedy. Agent Twilight could learn to accept his daughter’s gift, seeing it as a blessing for his mission rather than a curse. Loid could also keep her secret to prevent any intelligence organization from taking her and using her as a weapon.

The intensity of the Spy x Family manga will only continue increasing with each new entry. The series seems to be preparing for an important event to take place, and it is likely that readers are not ready for what is coming. Nevertheless, as long as the Forger Family can continue living happily, readers will be more than pleased to see what the series has in store for them.
