As Marvel barrels towards a brutal Spider-Man vs Hulk vs Punisher battle royal, it's been confirmed that an epic weapon will be present to even the playing field - the Cosmic Cube, also known to MCU fans as the Tesseract.
Introduced to Marvel lore in 1966, the Cosmic Cube is a powerful artifact with the ability to rewrite reality. Across Marvel lore, Cosmic Cubes have defeated Thanos, brought down Galactus and changed history to turn Captain America into a Hydra sleeper agent. Now, that raw power is being turned on the Hulk.
Anyone who thought that Hulk would simply stomp Spider-Man and the Punisher into paste will now have to rethink their position, as the incredible power of the Cosmic Cube is more than enough to bring down the Jade Giant, especially in the hands of expert warrior Frank Castle.
Spider-Man vs Punisher vs Hulk Gets Interesting Thanks to the COSMIC CUBE
Marvel recently began publishing the standalone series Spider-Man: Long Way Home (from Jonathan Hickman, Adam Kubert, Arthur Hesli and Ariana Maher) pitting Hulk, Spider-Man and a pre-Punisher Frank Castle against each other in a new continuity. The story sees the three each pursuing the Cosmic Cube for their own reasons, bringing them into conflict.
Now, Marvel confirms that Punisher is about to take ownership of the godlike superweapon, turning it against Hulk in revenge for the Green Goliath killing off his mercenary team, leaving him with a deep hunger for revenge. THE BIRTH OF THE PUNISHER! No team, no family, Frank Castle is a man with nothing left to lose. All he has at his disposal are his skills and the weapon that started it all. A weapon that serves as the perfect bait for the monster that took everything from him. And damn anyone that stands in the way of his revenge. Spider-Man may not know why S.H.I.E.L.D. wants the Cosmic Cube, and he certainly doesn't know what the Hulk wants with it, but he does know that it's too dangerous to be left in the hands of a man on the edge. The fight for the Cosmic Cube reaches its most brutal point yet! |

The canon of Long Way Home is significantly different to that of Earth-616. It sees Spider-Man already an established hero - and doing favors for S.H.I.E.L.D. - before the 'Punisher' persona ever existed. Likewise, Hulk is an out-and-out killer, albeit against those who were trying to do him mortal harm.
Now, stripped of his only friends and sense of purpose, and clutching one of the most powerful weapons in existence, Long Way Home's Frank Castle is about to become the Punisher, dedicating his life to exacting revenge on the Hulk. Sadly, Peter Parker's Spider-Man finds himself trapped in the middle.
Punisher Is at His Most Fun When He Breaks Out the Super-Arsenal
To many fans of the Punisher, Frank Castle works best when Marvel pretends he doesn't exist in a world of superheroes. Indeed, it's inarguable that most of his best stories of all time have embraced the premise of Frank as a normal man hunting regular gangsters in a grounded world.
However, there are also plenty of genuinely fun stories that fully merge Punisher with the wider Marvel Universe. When Marvel does that, it opens up an endless arsenal for Frank Castle, including everything from Ant-Man's size-changing Pym Particles to War Machine's armor and the Green Goblin's glider.

For fans of that kind of Punisher story, 2026 is a major gift. Not only is Long Way Home giving him the power of the Cosmic Cube, but over in Godzilla Conquers the Multiverse, Frank just unlocked an adamantium-plated robot in the shape of Marvel kaiju Fin Fang Foom (see above.)
In a historic clash between Spider-Man, Hulk and The Punisher, Frank Castle is using the Cosmic Cube to punch above his weight class, giving him an actual chance to bring down Bruce Banner's monstrous other half.
Spider-Man: Long Way Home #3 is coming September 2 from Marvel Comics.
